The Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, located in Chakvi, is the key legislative body ensuring democratic governance in the region. The Supreme Council includes up to 21 deputies elected by Georgian citizens living in Adjara for a period of 4 years. In this case, elections are held on the basis of universal, equal and direct elections by secret ballot.
