Losses of airlines and free baggage allowance - what changes can we expect?
Do you want to fly peacefully and not overpay for a large suitcase at the airport? We've talked about the October 2020 reforms and the tightening of baggage regulations on madloba. We've covered all the possible surcharges and ideal luggage sizes.
In October 2020, reforms took place in some Russian airlines. Pegas Fly, Nordwind, AZUR air, and Royal Flight changed the conditions for free baggage allowance.
Now, if your suitcase weighs more than ten kilograms, you will have to pay for the excess weight. Interestingly, before this reform, the limit was twenty kilograms.
That is, the allowable weight of free baggage has been reduced by half. Hand luggage was not affected by the changes. You still need to adhere to the dimensions of 40x30x20 cm, and its weight should not exceed five kilograms.
Not all airlines have implemented these changes, so before you embark on a journey, familiarize yourself with the baggage rules of the airline whose tickets you plan to purchase. For families traveling together, an unpleasant change awaits in the near future. The rule of cumulative baggage weight is canceled.
Each family member's suitcase can weigh up to ten kilograms. If there is an excess weight, of course, you will have to pay extra.
The surcharge varies from 1000 to 2000 rubles, and the amount will depend not only on the weight but also on the distance of the flight. For flights up to 8 hours, the surcharge will be from 1000 to 1500 rubles, for flights over 8 hours - from 1500 to 2000 rubles.
If you hide the excess weight and it is discovered later, you will have to pay twice as much. And one more thing: when paying for excess weight, it is better to do it online in advance.
Because if you pay for excess weight at the airport during check-in, the amount will double.
The tightening of baggage transportation rules is due to the losses suffered by airlines during the pandemic-related restrictions.
