To get from Tbilisi to the city of Batumi by car
Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia and attracts tourists from all over the world, while Batumi remains the second most visited city located on the Black Sea coast. Many travelers tend to visit both points. But how can you do this while traveling by car?
Find out how to get from Tbilisi to Batumi by car⬇️
The distance between Tbilisi and Batumi is very impressive, it is almost 400 kilometers. Many tourists first arrive in the capital, and then intend to go to the second most famous city, but do not know how to do it quickly and comfortably.
What is the route to get from Tbilisi to Batumi by car?
Route through Kutaisi
The choice of this route is undoubtedly the most advantageous for two reasons. Firstly, your whole way goes through the tracks with a good paved road, where you can accelerate without problems. Secondly, you get the opportunity to get acquainted with the wonderful Kutaisi and see a couple of sights along the way.
This path can be divided into 4 parts. The first of them is the road from Tbilisi to Gori by highway. Traffic cameras are located on this territory, so it is recommended to follow the rules and not accelerate more than 110 km/h.
From Gori, you should drive to Surami, on this section you can calmly rest, slow down and have a snack, since the next part of the way will pass through the pass (from Surami to Zestafoni).
The way to Zestafoni will be the most beautiful and impressive for tourists. We do not recommend passing this section at night, because the highway is not illuminated.
The last “breakthrough” in this mini-journey will be the way from Zestafoni to the long-awaited Batumi. This road is also quite picturesque, because it runs along the Black Sea coast and nearby villages.
Route through the Goderdzi Pass
This option of the way to Batumi is more time-consuming, but the few hours spent pay off with wonderful natural landscapes. The mileage of this road does not differ from the route through Kutaisi, it's all about off-road sections.
The path starts identically with the first one, it can be divided into 3 parts. First of all, you will have to drive from Tbilisi to the city of Khashuri on a regular paved highway. Upon arrival in Khashuri, you need to leave the main road, after which you will find yourself on a dirt road.
The appearance of dirt under the wheels of the car will mean that you have entered the most picturesque, but inaccessible place in Georgia - the Goderdzi Pass. Driving through this section, you will see many mountain rivers, and some of them will even have to be crossed by car in shallow places. It is worth noting that at the entrance to the pass you will encounter a thick fog.
After some time of driving along Goderdzi, you will be met by a small village of Khulo, which is the final stage of the journey. Immediately after that, asphalt will appear under your wheels again and you will only have to safely get to sunny Batumi.
Which way to Batumi should I choose?
The option of the road through Kutaisi is the most comfortable and suitable for travelers with young children and those who want to get to their destination as soon as possible. The way through the Goderdzi pass is created for adventurers and those who want to get there without haste, taking a look at the beautiful natural wonders of Georgia along the way.
