content

Georgia has always attracted the attention of travelers. Thousands of visitors have dedicated their notes to the capital city, Tbilisi. Today, no one will remain indifferent, going to rest in the main Georgian city.

National flavor: culinary delights, cultural traditions, hospitality and cordiality of the Caucasian people. Tbilisi is the center of Eurasian trade routes.

It is a friendly, special, hospitable, bright and warm city with spiritually rich people. This description is the basis of its name. Tbilisi means "warm" in Georgian. Earlier the settlement was called Tiflis.

Every vacationer, once in the city streets, feels the medieval spirit.

The capital of Georgia was founded in the 5th century. She was constantly subjected to conquests, experiencing a huge number of feuds, wars, fires and destruction. Still no one managed to bring the residents and the government to their knees. Constantly, like a phoenix from the ashes, the Georgian settlement was reborn, preserving its traditions and culture.

Now Tbilisi is unrecognizable. It's a civilized Georgian metropolis, an industrial and resort province. Here the modern buildings are mixed with the architectural structures of antiquity. All this is of particular interest to tourists who want to touch the ancient mysteries and learn more about the cultural component of Georgia.

All this absorbed the sunny and bright Tbilisi. Definitely will not remain indifferent none of those who come to this city.

This is evidenced by a huge number of positive reviews from tourists.

More than 2000 hotels and hotel complexes open their doors to you. If you're looking for a more budget option, you can go to a local who will hospitably accommodate you in their home, providing the most pleasant conditions.

The main sights to visit

No matter what time of year your vacation in the Georgian capital is planned, you should first know what places to visit. Guided tours are great, but traveling around Tbilisi on your own is much better.

The capital's must-see sights:

  • The Abanotu Baths is a complex consisting of many sulfur saunas. It is located in the very center of Tbilisi. On the ground level there are many domes standing on the thermal sulfur waters. The baths were founded in the 16th century. The complex is a must-see due to the fact that the baths have a healing effect.

  • Narikala is a castle that has remained impregnable. One of the oldest buildings located on a hill. According to chronicles, the building was erected as early as the 4th century. So, it stood untouched for more than 13 centuries, but in 1828 there was an earthquake. Nobody dared to restore the castle.
  • Metekhi is a monastery built in the mountain range with the same name. This is the oldest Georgian settlement. This structure served as an estate for noblemen and kings, and was an excellent refuge from invaders. Tourists are led over a rickety bridge to the observation deck.
  • Liberty Square - this is often where guides gather. This square is considered the departure point for sightseeing programs. Almost all excursions to the old part of the city leave from here, and the new monuments are introduced here as well. In the central part of the square there is the famous column with the gilded saints.

  • Rustaveli is an avenue that starts from Freedom Square. It stretches for one and a half kilometers, immersed in the shade of unique trees called sycamores. Those who were lucky enough to visit the Georgian capital in the spring, surely felt the aroma of this plant. It is incredible. The tree retains its beauty throughout the year, because the red fruits do not fall off. There are many myths and tall tales associated with it, and not only from the peoples of Georgia.
  • On the territory where in ancient times were the first settlements, there is an old center, called Kala. Well-groomed residential buildings with tracery balconies, some of which are in an upright position. Cobblestone-lined narrow hutongs, with characteristic passes up and down to the foot of the mountains.
  • Botanical Garden is a place where you can spend a whole day. Excursion programs are held inside the complex, so you have to get to it on your own. It was founded in the 19th century and was used as the possession of the king. Today, it is open to every visitor.

  • The cable car was built more than 100 years ago. At the top is a large-scale entertainment park with rides. In the middle is a restaurant with summer verandas, is a favorite place for visitors because of the comfort and national coloring of Georgian dishes.
  • Vorontsov Palace - home of the heir to the Tsar. Wide corridors, a large number of narrow rooms for the servants, a picturesque garden, and an impressive adjacent territory. According to the guides, there used to be crowded events and balls for the Georgian nobility.
  • Peace Bridge. The combination of glass and concrete, in the form of light and openwork structure does not leave holidaymakers indifferent. There are a lot of people here in May, as well as in winter. It is especially beautiful here in the evening, when the lights are turned on. For locals it is a shortcut from the old town to the new neighborhoods.
  • An aerial tramway. There are two of them in Tbilisi. Each is recommended to visit. The cabins are comfortable, no crush. They offer a view of the ancient and modern city.

The above-mentioned attractions are only a small part of what is worth seeing in the capital city. The words of tourists are justified, one day is clearly not enough to experience all the charms of the pearl of Georgia. Evaluations and reviews confirm that people want to go back to Tbilisi on vacation.

Be sure to visit the Tabori Temple, which is located in the vicinity, as well as have lunch at Machakkhela Café and see the patterns of the ancient house during the trip.

Why go to Tbilisi?

The season, like everywhere else in the resorts, falls in the warm months beginning in May. All the beach complexes are crowded at this time. Given the fact that it is too hot, you can devote it to excursions. Visitors are provided with a comfortable bus with air conditioning and the services of guides.

In winter, everyone usually goes to Georgia to ski resorts, but the snowfall is not an excuse not to explore the monuments and architecture of ancient times.

In fact, Tbilisi is beautiful all year round. This is confirmed by the positive reviews of tourists, the words of local residents and guides. A trip to Tbilisi is a fascinating and lively vacation.

Why is this city worthy of such attention?

Guides, who are in love with this city, conduct the events, so it is pleasant to listen to them, which is confirmed by the reviews of travelers.
  • Georgian gastronomic abundance will not leave anyone indifferent. After all, even on the streets cook tastier than in popular fast food outlets. Professional chefs treat tourists to things they have never tasted before.
  • Sulfur baths give tourists an opportunity to improve their health right on the central square. Recreational complexes will give you a boost of energy and good health for a long time. This is not a mere verbiage. All as in estimates from tourists.

Is the Mtatsminda funicular suitable for people who are afraid of heights? I love the idea of visiting the amusement park and enjoying the view, but I'm a bit nervous about the ride itself. Can someone share their experience, please?

Is the cable car ride to Narikala Fortress included in the entrance fee for the fortress, or is it a separate charge?

Walking through the narrow streets of Old Tbilisi with its lattice balconies and sulfur baths was like stepping back in time. Liberty Square bustled with life and the iconic Bronze Horseman statue left a lasting impression. The evening light and music show at Revolution Square's fountain was a delightful surprise. Strolling down Rustaveli Avenue offered a rich tapestry of theaters, museums, and charming cafes. The view from Narikala Fortress was breathtaking, especially after the scenic cable car ride. The pedestrian glass Bridge of Peace, lit up at night, symbolizes the city's blend of tradition and modernity. The twelfth-century Metekhi Church perched on a cliff delivered stunning views of both the Narikala Fortress and the Mtkvari River. Dining in the Svanetian Quarter captured the vibrant spirit of Georgian culture with delicious cuisine and lively dances. A quiet retreat to the Botanical Garden revealed serene waterfalls and lush subtropical plants. The Georgian Art Museum presented a remarkable collection of national and European art. The funicular ride to Mtatsminda Park was an adventure, offering panoramic city views and a charming café experience at the top.

Can anyone recommend a good local restaurant near Rustaveli Avenue for trying traditional Georgian cuisine? Also, is it possible to experience the light and music show at Revolution Square during weekdays or is it only on weekends?
