The Dzalis Museum-Reserve is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the country. In the 1990s, archaeological excavations were carried out here, and a city of ancient times was discovered. The remains of a palace and a temple, a bathhouse with a mosaic floor were discovered.
The polychrome mosaic, which is the subject of study of the Italian archaeological mission, dates back to the 4th century AD and is one of the oldest examples of mosaics found in the country. In one of the three halls of the palace, the floor is covered with this patterned material.
To date, the mosaic is closed and protected, its upper part is still covered with a sedimentary layer, biological plaque and residues from used adhesives during previous work.
