The signal tower in Vedzini is part of a fortress complex built in the 1st century. A monument of Georgian architecture, one of the attractions of Georgia.
The carved pegs of the stone signal tower in Vedgini draw the eye and motivate further acquaintance with the fortress complex. It was here that, since the 16th century, battles with invaders - Persians and Turks - were fought for two centuries. There were also troublesome raids of the Caucasian mountaineers...
The Vejini Observation (signal) Tower is located in the village of the same name, in the region of Kakheti, a historical region of Georgia in the east, which is famous for its local vineyards and unique landscape. If you're looking for things to see in Georgia, then Kateghia should definitely be on your list!
Georgia's sights are not only uniquely beautiful, but also rich in history. For example - Vejini Signal Tower is a part of the fortress ensemble, which was supposedly built in the 1st century AD.
It is considered to be one of the most interesting sights in Georgia. The fortress was the residence of the ruler Agsartan I and his descendant Agsartan II, and was an important strategic site in various wars. Thus, for example, from the 16th to 18th centuries, here fought against Persia, Turkey and the Caucasian mountaineers. Vedgini fortress remained in history as the place of tragic murder of King Irakli II's son Levan in 1782, who led the army.
Unfortunately, after numerous raids and defenses little remains of the original fortress, but the ruins of this undoubtedly important structure can be seen as a proof of its former power.
Today, the Signal Tower is the main dominant feature of the architectural ensemble. It is a round tower of dressed stone with carved windows, and the vault of the signal tower ends in a parapet with stone prongs.
Nearby is the monastery complex of Amagleba, consisting of three churches, which is also interesting not only as an amazing architectural structure, but also as a place of pilgrimage.
Observation (signal) tower Vigini in combination with the landscape is rightly ranked among the most beautiful places in Georgia.
