Dviri Fortress, one of the main attractions of Georgia in Borjomi, is located on the right bank of the Mtkvari River. The time of construction is the 13th century.
Dviri Fortress is located in the village of Dviri, Borjomi municipality on the right bank of the Mtkvari River. There are not many documentary mentions of it. However, archaeologists have found out that the fortress in the old days was used for warfare
Dviri Fortress is the central monument of Borjomi district. Unfortunately, the entire fortress has not been preserved, only ruins have survived to this day. The ruins of the fortress are located in the west of the village of Dviri, to be more precise, on the right bank of the Mtkvari River. Scientists examined the fortress and found out that, most likely, it belongs to the 13th- 14th centuries. This is evidenced by the features of its structure: it is built in two tiers, and the walls are made of different amounts of mixed stones.
This historical monument is of great value for Georgia, as it was previously a strategic object of the main gorge of the Borjomi district. This information became known thanks to the excavations carried out by archaeologists. In the course of these archaeological studies, a number of Byzantine coins from about the 11th century were found, which have preserved their original appearance quite well. Unfortunately, not all the sights of Georgia are currently preserved in their original form.
