History
Sights of Georgia they are numerous, but this wealth is only growing, the cultural fund of the country is replenished every year with new interesting architectural monuments and not only. The monastery complex, to which the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos belongs, was founded in early 2002, and it is gradually being expanded. The first buildings of the entire complex were the churches of St. John, Ekvtime and George of Mtatsminda, the latter were completed only in 2006. Four years later, the Iveria Foundation was organized, where money was sent for donations for the construction of the cathedral.
It should be noted that the exaltation of the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos was completely carried out at the expense of donations from parishioners. Its construction began in April 2012, the ceremony of laying the foundation of the future cathedral was attended by the Venerable Patriarch Ilia II, President Mikhail Saakashvili, and many other significant persons for Georgia. The construction of the cathedral took place over three years, in 2015 the building was completed.
The interior of the church is decorated with paintings, on the iconostasis there are not only icons of all famous saints, but also images of national martyrs. There really is something to see in Georgia and learn more about the traditions of the country. The central place on the iconostasis is occupied by the icon of the Iverian Theotokos. All believers know that the Mother of God helps people not only with mental wounds, but also with bodily illnesses, crowds of worshippers come to her to pray for healing. For the convenience of parishioners, the city authorities in 2016 paved a road to the cathedral as part of the Sameba – Mahati highway.
In 2019, during the bright feast of the inheritance of the Theotokos, the patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church blessed the temple.
