Created as a meaningful one, on the top of Mount Spruce, at an altitude of 820 meters above sea level, from where the most beautiful places of Georgia open.
History.
According to some sources, the history of this church originates from the nearby village of Ivanovka. In this village in the center there was a church in which there was a historical “book of expenses” and it sheds light on this church, namely an entry from 1897, in which it is written: This church is Georgian, on the basis of which, with the charitable help of believers, a new church was built in 1876.
After the restoration, it was re-consecrated and given the name “In the name of Saints Peter and Paul.” Initially it was small, but later the parishioners decided to expand it and started their own business in 1915. However, the establishment of Soviet power suspends construction. At the beginning of the XX century, it was still completed by the craftsmen of the village of Ivanovka. Since ancient times there was a small church in the name of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
At the request of Bishop Efrem (Gamrekelidze) of Bolnisi, a church of Saints Peter and Paul was built on the site of the chapel, as well as a monastery attached to it. The monastery has its own winery, because monastic winemaking occupies a special place in the history of Georgia. All concerned citizens and private businesses helped in its construction. The equipment was helped by a gold mine nearby, and a wine company participates in the production of wine.
In 2018, vineyards were planted on the slopes of Mount Elia, under the monastery complex in the name of Saints Peter and Paul on the stone terraces of the mountain and vines of various varieties were grafted. The ceremony was attended by Efrem Bolnisi (Gamrekelidze), who is the owner of the idea of creating a vineyard, accompanied by representatives of the local administration. Also, gravestones were built under the church.
On the main observation square there is the main particle of the Georgian landmark - the monument to the Bosnian Cross - made in a spherical shape, on a carved wooden platband, standing on a stone pedestal also depicting the Bosnian Cross. From the top of Mount Eliya and the open viewing platforms of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, there is something to see in Georgia. And the residents of the fraternal cells have amazing panoramas that any hotel can envy.
