50-ых годах XIX века на бассейне реки Шаори началось строительство гидроэлектростанции. Для обеспечения ГЭС-а водой решили запрудить реку Шаори. Так появилось в котловине реки водохранилище, площадь которого составляет 9,2 км², максимальная глубина 14,5 метра. Водохранилище пополняется не только речной водой, но и подземными водами (в том числе и минеральными источниками), а также воклюзами, находящимися на окрестных территориях (Дзрохиствала, Квахеткила, Хврелети и др.).

Особенность Шаорского водохранилища в том, что оно наполняется не только речными водами, но и подземными. Вокруг Шаори множество карстовых пещер, озер под землей. В окрестностях водохранилище обильно окружает лесной хребет, где растут уникальные деревья, а в лесах огромное количество грибов.

ГЭС. Для обеспечения ГЭС-а водой решили запрудить реку Шаори. Так появилось водохранилище, пополняющееся не только речной водой, но и подземными водами.
Вокруг много воронок и колодцев, глубиноц 5-15 метров. Есть карстовые пещеры с подземными залами. От дамб до деревни Никорцминда – подземное карстовое озеро.
Вокруг котлована – хребет Накерала и гора Сацалики. В рощах и хвойных лесах много разных грибов. Вот туда сейчас, по грибы!!!)
