What resorts are located in the mountains in Georgia. The most beautiful resorts. The resort place Mestia.
The city and tourist center of Mestia stands on a mountain and is surrounded by other mountains. Around these places are preserved many treasures of Georgia. Here are preserved unique icons, ancient manuscripts and other important historical relics. This place is a must-see for health and recreation.
Surrounded by mountains, at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level, stands Mestia, the administrative and tourist center of Zemo Svaneti. It is connected to the center of the region, Zugdidi, by a 138 km road, which winds through the valley between the picturesque Svaneti ridges.
The road has a vital importance for the highlands. Svaneti has cold winters with heavy snowfalls. For centuries, the only road leading to Mestia has been blocked with snow from November to mid-April, cutting Svaneti off from the outside world during those months.
RESORT PLACE MESTIA
For many centuries, the inaccessible Zemo Svaneti has served as a repository of Georgian treasures. During wars, church or worldly objects were brought here from different regions of Georgia and carefully hidden in the mountains of Svaneti. Thus unique icons, ancient manuscripts and other relics were preserved in Svaneti, which are now located in the churches of the region and in the Mestia Museum of History and Ethnography.
Ushguli - the highest settlement in Svaneti and Europe is 2060-2200 m above the sea level. Ushguli community consists of four villages: Zhibiani, Chvibiani, Murkmeli and Chazhashi. Chazhashi village is currently on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and has been declared a museum because of the preservation of its unique architectural and ethnographic heritage - more than 30 traditional towers of Svan. A fortress of XII-XIII centuries stands in the southern part of the village, from which all four villages of Ushguli can be seen. In the upper, northern part of Ushguli stands the church named after Virgin Mary "Lamariya". From this church rises the road to the mountain Shkhara.
In the Svaneti Kavkasioni there are many peaks covered with snow all year round. Among them are three peaks: Shkhara (the highest peak in Georgia, 5203 meters above sea level), Tetnuldi (4858 meters above sea level) and Ushba. The double-headed Ushba (4,700 meters on the south peak and 1,690 meters on the north) is not the highest among the peaks named, but it was given the highest category of complexity. For the first time the northern peak was conquered by the British in 1888, after 20 unsuccessful attempts to climb it. And the southern peak in 1903 was held a joint expedition of German, Swiss and Austrian climbers. Until 1934, 60 attempts had been made to climb Ushba, but only four of them were successful.
A few years ago it was decided to use the continuous snow cover as a valuable recreational resource for the development of winter sports. Three ski tracks were laid 7 km from Mestia, on Khatsvili in 2010. One of them, 2,950 m long, is intended for sports competitions.
