Small rocky pillars of Georgia. Udabno Pillars.
On the flat spot of one of the plateaus there is a natural formation, the height of which is five meters. This formation is called the rocky pillar of Udabno. Such pillars are often found on this plateau. Visiting this place, you can also see the monastery cave complex Davidgareji.
The Jordan Plateau, which stretches 170 meters from northwest to southeast in the interfluve of the Kura and Alazani rivers, differs from other regions of Georgia by its lack of water, scarce vegetation, and lifeless land devoid of soil cover. In the summertime heat and stuffiness, scorched from the scorching sun grass, dried up springs and the abundance of reptiles make these places uncomfortable for living and traveling. However, the presence of historical and natural monuments still attracts tourists.
Over millions of years, geological processes have produced many natural phenomena on the Jordanian plateau: unusual landscapes have been formed (e.g. rocks resulting from denudation and weathering, pole or tower-shaped forms formed on the clay soil of steep slopes without vegetation cover).
In the western part of the Jordan Plateau, at the eastern foot of Mount Disjie, on a completely flat spot rises an amazing natural formation 5.2 meters high, 2 meters long, 1.2 meters wide. It is a dedunation remnant - a rocky pillar Udabno, formed from dense Neogene sandstone. Such pillars are found in many places on the Jordan Plateau.
15 km south of the column Udabno in the rocky Gareji Mountains is the monastery cave complex David Gareji - one of the most spectacular monuments in Georgia. David Gareji is a religious and cultural center of the feudal period was founded by one of the Assyrian fathers - David - in the first half of the VI century. despite the fact that the surrounding area is almost devoid of vegetation, the cave complex has preserved fragments of the garden.
