According to an ancient legend, Reprois is the tear of the daughters of the underground spirit. An underground spirit lived on the Black Sea coast with a son and three twin daughters. The underground spirit forged weapons for his son and other soldiers who defended the only way to Abkhazia — the Gagra Passage. This weapon made its owner invincible. After the death of the spirit, there was no one to update the weapon, and the son, along with his comrades, died in an unequal battle with non-local hordes of enemies from distant countries. Having penetrated deep into the edge and reached the caves, the enemies filled up with stones all the exits from where the sisters came to the surface of the earth. Caught in eternal captivity, the defenseless women wept with great grief. From their tears, streams arose, which, breaking through the rubble, formed the Reprois River.

Reprua is one of the coldest rivers of the Black Sea coast. It flows into the Black Sea, and its source is 18 meters from the sea. With a strong sea tide, the length of the river sometimes decreases to 6-10 meters.

Reproa is a powerful karst stream that collects water in an underground karst system and is located in the central part of the Arabica massif of the Gagra Ridge. Part of the water is absorbed into the surface of the beach and flows into the sea through underground channels. Another indicator is the river: its debit ranges from 1660 to 3160 l/s. The river supplies Gagra with water.

Due to the fact that the Reprois River flows underground, the Guinness Book of Records does not recognize its right to be called the shortest river in the world. The shortest rivers in the world are the U.S. rivers Roe River (61 meters, Montana) and Dee River (36 meters, Ohio).
