The city of Tusheti. Which natural monuments in Tusheti are worth visiting first of all.
There are many natural monuments in Tusheti, and its entire territory is declared nature conservation. The following monuments have survived to this day: ancient settlements, folk handicrafts, household items. Of the natural monuments, old travertines, lakes of glacial origin, and a lot of mineral waters are of special attention.
According to today's administrative division, the entire territory of Tusheti (860 sq. km) is part of the Akhmet municipality and includes several villages in which villagers still live permanently. The villages are located at an altitude of 1900 to 2400 m . The center of Tusheti is the village of Omalo.
The entire territory of Tusheti is currently declared a nature conservation area. Unique monuments of cultural heritage have survived here to this day: ancient settlements, samples of folk handicrafts, household items. Villages and fortresses built of local slate stone, together with the natural environment, create a unique landscape landscape. Together with the landscape features and cultural monuments, the local population observes the oldest traditions and customs, adheres to the centuries-old way of life. On October 24, 2004, Tusheti was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
In addition to historical and ethnographic monuments, Tusheti is also of interest from a geographical point of view: for example, there is a large formation of old travertines near the village of Dartlo. There are both active and discontinued travertines. In addition to the travertines of Dartlo, there are many interesting natural monuments in Tusheti: in the subalpine zone (at the source of the Ortskali River) there are lakes of glacial origin. The diameter of none of these lakes exceeds 20 m. There are similar lakes at the beginning of the Shaviklde and Webu valleys. The lake of glacial origin, located at the source of the Kaloani Valley, is covered with ice throughout the year. It should also be noted Lake Oreti, from the surroundings of which magnificent panoramas of the entire Tusheti open. Two endemic species live in the areas adjacent to the lake: the Caucasian grouse and the Caucasian ular.
There are many therapeutic mineral waters in the region: "Chigostskali" contains salt and chlorides, at the foot of Mount Vedzi, near the villages of Hiso, Shenako, Parsma, Nasoplari and Chontio – two springs, near the village of Omalo – three springs with salt-alkaline mineral water, in the vicinity of the villages of Dochu and Hahabo – springs with iron-containing water.
