Wildlife in Georgia: Algeti National Park. Abundance of plants and animals.
Algeti National Park is a protected area located in the Tetritskaroi Municipality of Georgia. The park features an abundance of various plants and animals, some of which are on the verge of extinction. Despite the fact that hiking in the park will give you an unforgettable experience, tourists can also rent horseback riding.
The Algeti National Park is located in Tetritskaro Municipality, 60 km from Tbilisi. Almost the entire park is covered with coniferous and deciduous forests. Because of the abundance of plants represented in the park, and there are 1,664 species, botanists call it the “Node of Floristry".
Some of them are on the verge of extinction. Algeti is distinguished by an incredible variety of not only plants, but also animals. Large mammals live here, and some species migrate to this park.
As mentioned earlier, most of the Algeti is covered with forest. Only 6044 hectares account for coniferous plants, which is 23% of the entire territory. Among them are spruce and fir, which are relict species. They need care, as they are an integral part of the Caucasian flora.
These species grow in the Algeti, rising to 1100-1850 meters above sea level. In Algeti, you can find a phytocenotic variety of hogs and thickets of bamboo, oak and pine. But some species are found only in single specimens, for example, Caucasian fir and berry yew.
It has already been mentioned about the large mammals of this park. The territory is inhabited by brown bears, wolves, lynxes and other predators. You can also see squirrels, martens, roe deer, hares and foxes. Surprisingly, several species of lizards and amphibians live in this territory.
Of course, snakes also live in this park: copperheads, snakes and vipers of various species. The number of birds of the Alget Gorge is simply amazing, there are more than 60 species of them. There are hawks, blackbirds, jays, and blue-throats here. This park is also appreciated by the fact that there is an extremely rare eagle-burial ground.
Exploring the expanses of the park, you may think that it is very easy to get lost there. Especially to prevent such situations, there is one marked trail in Algeti, which allows tourists to do without an escort.
