Natural attractions in Georgia. Kvernak ridge.
Although the Kvernak ridge is not large in size, it is distinguished by its natural diversity and landscape differences. Ancient settlements used to live on the ridge, there were defensive structures here. Be sure to visit the Kvernak ridge to touch the history of Georgia.
On the north side, the ridge is framed by the canyon-like plain of the Kura River. The highest peak of the ridge is Zegarda, located at an altitude of 1114 meters above sea level. The ridge is 70 km long and 7 km wide. Its slopes differ sharply from each other: in its southern part they are much steeper and more ravine-like than in the north. The ridge consists of neogenic conglomerates, sandstone and clay.
The Kvernak ridge is distinguished by its natural diversity. Despite its small scale, landscape differences are also noticeable when traveling at a short distance. A slight difference in exposure causes a change in evaporation, which is a prerequisite for the presence of diverse vegetation. If on the southern slopes there are plants of semi-deserts and arid forests, then on the western slopes there are thorny shrubs, degraded hornbeam forests, on the northern and eastern slopes there are mixed oak and hornbeam forests, in riverine forests plants characteristic of the Tugai.
The Kvernak ridge is one of the most remarkable historical regions of Georgia: there were ancient settlements, defensive structures, historical events took place here. The city of Uplistsikhe is carved on its slopes. It was here in 337 that King Mirian comprehended the Christian truths. There is also a complex of artificial caves Shiomgwime.

Много лет назад, там жили древние люди, интересно, комфортным ли был климат для жизни. Я бы с удовольствием отправилась на экскурсию, но обязательно с гидом.
