Georgian poet and public figure Iosif Noneshvili (1920-1980) was born on April 19 in the village of Kardanakhi in the Signag district. He was educated at the Tbilisi 18th Men's School (now the 51st Public School) and at the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi State University. He fought against Nazi Germany and on the Caucasian Front.
Noneshvili's poems and poems left an indelible mark on Georgian poetry of the second half of the twentieth century. "There is such a country", "The carver's Epitaph", "It would suit you to be the queen of Georgia", "God of Love", "Achilles", "It turns out that this is great heroism", "Water of the nation", "Hiroshima", "Teacher", "God and hands", "In Athens, at the monument to Byron", "You don't have a royal surname". "Medea" and other poems have taken a well-deserved place in the treasury of Georgian poetry.
Noneshvili's poetry is distinguished by boundless love for the motherland and special, subtle lyrics. "Truly a people's poet", "poet-tribune", "poet of love" - such epithets were awarded to Joseph Noneshvili by the Georgian people. He has never received a single state award or prize in his life. He was distinguished by a genuine mastery of artistic poetry reading and a special responsiveness to people in need.
In various years, Iosif Noneshvili was the editor of the magazines "Niangi" (Crocodile) and "Dila" (Morning), the newspaper "Literaturuli Sakartvelo" (Literary Georgia), Secretary of the Board of the Union of Writers of Georgia, Chairman of the Republican Committee for the Protection of Peace, member of the United Association of Writers of Europe, winner of the Shota Rustaveli Prize (posthumously). He received several combat medals at the front.
Many musical works have been created based on Noneshvili's poems, and his poetry has been translated into 23 languages.
The museum houses the personal archive of Iosif Noneshvili, manuscripts, photographs, a rich library, memorial items, audio and video recordings, films, podrki, various documents, posters, invitation cards, letters, paintings, etc. There are more than 17,000 exhibits in total. The museum was founded in 1985. The exposition is presented in 6 exhibition halls. The museum has a separate special hall, which hosts various cultural events, a wine tasting room, a souvenir salon, etc. The museum offers an unforgettable panoramic view of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains.
