🖋️ Life and work of Mirza Gelovani
Mirza Gedeonovich Gelovani is an outstanding Georgian poet and hero of the Great Patriotic War, born on March 2, 1917 in the picturesque village of Nakalakari at the foot of the Tianeti Mountains. 🌄 His first poems, published at the age of 18, immediately attracted the attention of famous writers of that time, including the great Galaktion Tabidze. 📜
Mirza received his education at the Tianeti Pedagogical College, after which he worked as a teacher and then as a proofreader at the Tbilisi publishing house "Sabchota Mtserali". 🏫✍️ In 1939, he was drafted into the army, graduated from the tank school and rose to the rank of battalion commander. Even at the front, amidst heavy fighting, the poet continued to create - 37 of his war poems have survived, filled with courage and deep reflections on war and fate. ⚔️🕊️
Unfortunately, on June 26, 1944, on the third day of Operation Bagration, Mirza died while crossing the Western Dvina. He is buried in a mass grave in Belarus. 🕯️🇧🇾
🤝 Interesting fact
What is unique and touching is that the poet's veneration goes far beyond Georgia. In Belarus, in the Vitebsk region, where Mirza is buried, events dedicated to his memory are held annually. 🇧🇾🌹
Traditional meetings, poetry readings, cultural evenings with Georgian and Belarusian music create a bridge of friendship between peoples and remind us of the great poet, whose work unites hearts. 🎶📜 A memorandum of cooperation was recently signed between the Tianeti municipality and the Beshenkovichi district, which was an important step in strengthening cultural ties. 🤝🌍
It is interesting that similar events were planned to be held at the poet's grave in Belarus together with Georgia, but the pandemic made its own adjustments, and the main memorial holiday was held in the house-museum in Tianeti. 🏡💫
