On the first one you will see materials that affect the life and work of Ilya. On the second and third floors there is an office, a dining room, a bedroom and other rooms. Every year on August 2, Ilya Chavchavadze organized large celebrations in Saguramo, to which he invited many guests - both representatives of the nobility and ordinary peasants. So he celebrated the day of his Angel. The first foreigner whom Chavchavadze invited to a holiday in Saguramo was the German writer Arthur Laist. Since 2014, the celebration of "Iliaoba" in Saguramo has been resumed.
The house-museum of the "uncrowned tsar" of Georgia Ilya Chavchavadze is located in Saguramo, in the estate of his wife Olga Guramishvili.
The Georgian writer, public and political figure Ilya Chavchavadze was born in 1837 in the family of an impoverished prince. For that time, he received an excellent education, in 1857-1861 he studied at St. Petersburg University at the Faculty of Law. Upon his return to his homeland, he headed the national liberation movement and served his people until the end of his days. For his services to the fatherland, the Georgian Apostolic Church canonized him and named him Ilya the Righteous. He is buried in the pantheon on Mtatsminda Mountain
Ilya built a magnificent mansion in Saguramo in 1895. The complex includes a house, utility rooms (a house for the manager, a wine cellar), a park, a garden and a vineyard. After the murder of Ilya Chavchavadze (1907), Olga Guramishvili handed over the house to the "Society for the Dissemination of Literacy among Georgians". In the 30s of the last century, a rest house for writers and artists was opened in the building. In 1949, the Council of Ministers of Georgia decided to open the house-museum of Ilya Chavchavadze here. Another outstanding Georgian poet, Georgi Leonidze, took up this task, who found and collected almost all the lost and located in different places objects that are currently on display in the house museum.
On the ground floor of the museum there are materials related to the life and work of Ilya Chavchavadze. On the second and third floors there is a dining room, I. Chavchavadze's office, a bedroom, etc. Memorial items of the writer and his wife, decorative and everyday tableware, European and local furniture, manuscripts of the writer, works of fine art, etc. are exhibited here.
