Mikhail Khergiane is not only a great Georgian mountaineer, but also an honored Master of Sports of the USSR. In honor of the great athlete, in 1985, his own museum was opened. It is located in Mikhail Khergiane's own house. The house-museum is considered a memorial value and a landmark of Georgia.
On the ground floor of the museum, you can get acquainted with the athlete's belongings, there are his clothes, training equipment, photographs, merit awards and gifts. One of the most expensive gifts is considered to be a recording of Vysotsky's song, which he gave to Mikhail after his death.
Biography.
Mikhail Vissarionovich Khergiani was born on March 20, 1931. Talking about himself, Khergiane said that he has several names and he considers Chhumliani to be his real name, the name that was given to him at birth and baptism. His second name was Minani, that's what his relatives and close people in the walls of the house called him.
And the third name that everyone else knew was Mikhail. This name was given to him during his studies at the mountaineering school, it was difficult for the teachers to remember his real name and they nicknamed him by his Russian name - Misha.
Since childhood, Mikhail loved mountains and dreamed of conquering them. His father was also fond of mountaineering and was three times recognized champion of the USSR. Mikhail himself became a champion seven times. He was popularly called the “Tiger” and the conqueror of the mountains.
As a result of his work as a lifeguard, a large number of lives were saved. The first museum in honor of Hergiane was opened in 1983, in Mestia.
The death of Mikhail.
In 1969, Mikhail and other athletes went to the Italian Alps for the purpose of hiking. At the last stage, they had to conquer the 700-meter wall, Mount Sualto. It was here that Hergiane had to set his new record. Unfortunately, he fell from a 600-meter height.
The rope holding the climber was cut by rocks. Mikhail's body was found in a terrible condition, only his father could recognize him by his belt. At that time, the man was 37 years old. Mikhail is buried in the village where he was born, and on the top of his house, on a wall that looks like a rock, there is a red rope, it was she who let the great climber down at the time.
In 1969, a mountain on the ridge of Turkmenistan, the highest point, with a height of almost 5000 meters, was named in honor of Mikhail Khergiane. It is here that the most beautiful places of Georgia open.
