The exposition of the Akhvlediani Adjara Museum contains ancient manuscripts, paintings and archaeological artifacts that can be viewed in Georgia at any time.
Founded in 1908, the Akhvlediani Adjara Museum has long been a notable landmark of Georgia.
In the resort town of Batumi, located almost on the Black Sea coast, there is one of the oldest museums: the Khariton Akhvlediani Adjara Museum. The museum was built in 1908 and rightfully belongs to those attractions that are included in the must-see lists of what to see in Georgia.
The Khariton Akhvlediani State Museum is the oldest institution that deals with science and education in the country. The sights of Georgia, such as unique manuscripts, archaeological finds, ancient paintings and books, make up a regular exhibition and are adjacent to more than 180,000 exhibits that anyone can study.
The exhibits belong not only to different eras, types of art, but also to different languages. The manuscript fund has more than 2,000 manuscripts in Turkish, Russian, Armenian, Georgian and even Persian. However, this is not the only treasure of the museum. The number of books stored here is amazing! About 64,000 books, many of which are bibliographic rarities and true relics, are kept in this place.
In addition to the remarkable specimens in the library, the exhibition features items dating back to the 1st to 2nd centuries: a forged bowl, statues of discus throwers, weapons of war that our ancestors used to fight, jewelry made of gold and other precious metals, beads made of multi-colored stones, and unique bronze sculptures. These treasures alone are worth visiting the museum. The oldest exhibit at the exhibition dates back 25 million years. This is a petrified old tree, which is an invaluable item, interesting for studying the flora of these places. The tree grew even before the first man set foot on this land.
Medieval enthusiasts will also find much of interest in the gallery, which displays unique items from the 7th to 4th centuries found during archaeological excavations. Archaeologists found statues of animals, such as a bronze bull. Treasures were also discovered during the excavationsGonio, where ancient deities are depicted: Aphrodite - the goddess of beauty and love, and her companion and assistant - Eros.
Visitors will be told everything about the types of applied art of this sunny country, introduced to the traditions and customs of the people, told about the history and features of different regions of the country. Here are also examples of the fine art of local artists who depicted magnificent landscapes of mountainous terrain, the Black Sea and broad-leaved forests.
