    The cozy town of Tskhaltubo

    Over the past few years, Russians have seen a significant increase in demand for vacations in Georgia. After intense battles and political misunderstandings, the two countries have finally established contact. Thanks to this, the sanatoriums and boarding houses that operated during the Soviet Union have begun to revive.

    The seaside resort and sanatorium settlement, which welcomed thousands of visitors each year, is now enjoying renewed popularity. Tskaltubo now sees a steady increase in the number of people seeking to improve their health.

    Location of the village and ways to get there

    The spa resort of Tskaltubo is nestled in the west of the Georgian Republic, nestled among the Samgurali Hills that surround it on three sides, with the Black Sea coast on the fourth. This settlement, with a permanent population of 20,000, isn't always marked on maps. If you're planning a vacation there by private transport, you'll need a detailed guidebook. The resort town of Kutaisi is ten kilometers from this small village.

    The distance from Tbilisi to Tskaltubo is 250,000 meters.

    The most affordable option is by plane. From Moscow, you can fly to the Georgian capital or to Kutaisi. The flight time is 2-3 hours.

    After landing, you'll need to transfer to a minibus and travel to Tskaltubo.

    Healing radon

    Since Soviet times, people have come to Tskaltubo for health improvement. Tskaltubo's health resorts are famous for their mineral water, which boasts numerous beneficial properties:

    • mild radon activity;
    • belonging to the sodium-calcium-magnesium class of waters;
    • a stable complex of elements contained in the water;
    • low petrification;
    • self-heating to human body temperature.

    This water is used in the town to fill therapeutic hydrobaths. Thermal nitrogen waters, beneficial for healing, emerge from the ground in the area where the settlement is located.

    Karst caves

    The radioactive water isn't the only unique feature of this settlement. Another "famous" feature of Tskaltubo is its karst caves. Visiting them promotes healing for various ailments. They are recommended for people with lung diseases and upper respiratory tract pathologies.

    The healing effect is provided by the internal microclimate of the grottoes, filled with mineral salts. Patients experience normalization of blood pressure and restoration of the nervous system, as they finally recover from their illnesses.

    Attractions in Tskaltubo

    You'll be surprised, but there are no ancient architectural structures or Georgian national treasures here. What the locals are proud of is the picturesque nature with its dungeons, caves, grottoes, and mountain peaks. Almost the entire region is covered by parkland. It is equipped with bathing facilities, with constantly circulating water from underground springs.

    However, the city does have some interesting places, but they are located in the outskirts.

    • Sataplia Nature Reserve.
    • Kumistavi Underground.
    • Okatse Canyon – tourists can walk along the wall, crossing a cantilever bridge.
    • Kinchkha Waterfall Complex.

    If you're here not for medical treatment, but for sightseeing, you can go to Kutaisi; the journey takes half an hour.

    Cost of treatment and accommodation

    Prices at Tskaltubo's sanatoriums depend on the treatment provided and the level of service. Daily rates vary and start at 1,800 rubles. Comfortable rooms with meals are provided. More information can be found on the resorts' websites.

    It's unlikely that there's a place comparable to Tskaltubo in terms of therapeutic properties. The mild climate, excellent health conditions, and affordable accommodations give the city an image as a premier sanatorium or vacation spot.
