Until recently, one of the most unusual sights of Georgia could be seen in Adjara — Chacha Tower. In 2012, an original tower with a fountain appeared on the Batumi embankment, from which real Georgian chacha flowed instead of water on schedule. This spectacle attracted tourists from all over the world, because trying the national drink straight from the fountain was a real attraction.
The fountain “worked” once a week at 19:00 and delighted the city’s guests for only 15 minutes. The day of serving was kept secret, and the chacha producers changed in order to surprise with a new taste each time.
The idea to create such a fountain came to the city authorities of Batumi to attract tourists and popularize the traditional Georgian drink. Similar fountains with wine or beer exist in some cities of the world, but the Chacha Tower has become a unique symbol of Batumi.

However, in August 2024, the tower was dismantled.
🆕 After the reconstruction, the area around the former tower was completely transformed —New Park 🌿 .
The new urban park combines walking areas, padel courts, a mini-football field, pedestrian paths, and spacious green zones.
Thanks to this project, the area near the Alphabet Tower has become one of the most attractive places for recreation by the sea.

Fountain "Chacha"
The Chacha Fountain was dedicated to one of the most famous Georgian drinks - chacha. This strong grape distillate is produced both at home and in factories
Chacha is prepared on a grape base both at home and industrially. No Georgian feast is complete without grape vodka. The strength of the drink is from 50 to 70 degrees.
In 2001, Georgia received a patent for some national products. The list included suluguni cheese, churchkhela, khachapuri and some others. This list also included a strong grape drink.
Therefore, when preparing for the opening of the original fountain, it was decided that chacha would be served.

History and architecture
Chacha Tower was built in 2012 as a copy of an old building that adorned Batumi at the beginning of the 20th century. The height of the central part of the tower reached 25 meters, and on the sides there were four smaller turrets. At the level of 18 meters, a large clock was installed, due to which the structure was also called the Clock Tower.
The architectural appearance of Chacha Tower combined elements of the oriental, Turkish style, which gave it a special originality and harmoniously fit into the atmosphere of Primorsky Boulevard. On the upper level there was an observation deck, from where picturesque views of Batumi, the Black Sea and mountain landscapes opened up. This place was popular among tourists wishing to enjoy the panoramas of the city.
Since 2015, the fountain with chacha stopped functioning, and the tower itself needed repairs. Nevertheless, the structure continued to remain one of the striking architectural landmarks of Batumi. In the evening, Chacha Tower was decorated with multi-colored lighting, which made the tower look especially impressive. In August 2024, Chacha Tower was dismantled as part of the embankment improvement project. Today, the tower remains part of the city's history, recalling the creative ideas and Georgian flavor that once attracted thousands of tourists here.
What will be in place of Chacha Tower?
In August 2024, the tower was demolished as part of the Batumi urban infrastructure renewal program. Instead of the now symbolic tower with a fountain, the city authorities plan to create a modern public space for recreation and active leisure.
In its place, a green park with alleys, walking areas and sports activities will appear. The project includes bicycle paths, football and tennis courts, children's play areas, as well as cozy corners for family recreation. The new park will become part of a landscaped embankment and will be open to both Batumi residents and tourists looking for a place to relax and spend active time.
Thus, although Chacha Tower has become history, its place will be taken by a modern space that will continue to delight city guests - in a new format, reflecting Batumi's desire to develop and create a comfortable urban environment.

Who is working on the new park project in Batumi?
The project of the future park on the site of the demolished Chacha Tower is being developed by leading international experts. The Danish landscape company MASU Planning, which is known for its environmentally friendly and modern solutions in the improvement of urban spaces, was involved in the creation of the green zone. The famous Japanese architectural studio Kengo Kuma Architects (KKAA) became a partner of the project - one of the most respected bureaus in the world, participating in the implementation of large projects around the world, including the innovative Silk Towers complex in Batumi.
According to the approved master plan, the park will occupy an area of about two hectares and will become a logical continuation of the green coastal zone of Batumi Boulevard. The project provides for the preservation of existing trees and the planting of new plant species, the creation of sports and children's playgrounds, bicycle paths and recreation areas.
The Silk Development company took on the financing of the construction and the implementation of all stages of improvement. The start of work was scheduled for the fall of 2024.
Information and the park project are provided by the official source - theSilk Development website.
The tower was demolished, there will be a park here, but Batumi is still full of places for beautiful photos:
Chacha Tower has long been a bright symbol of Batumi, reflecting the color of Georgian culture and an original approach to attracting tourists. Despite the fact that the tower has gone down in history, its place will not remain empty. Soon a modern park will appear here - a space for recreation, sports and walks, which will give the city a new point of attraction. Batumi continues to change and develop, maintaining a balance between traditions and modern solutions. And city guests will be able to discover not only a new park, but also many other attractions for which this cozy corner on the Black Sea coast is famous.
