Speaking of the masters of painting of the twentieth century, you need to start with Niko Pirosmanishvili. The self-taught artist, who worked at the beginning of the last century, is known to all lovers of primitivism.

Niko hails from a village located in the vicinity of Sighnaghi. He was born, presumably, in 1862, but the exact date is unknown. When the boy turned 8, his father died and Niko was sent to Tbilisi.

There are many gaps in the biography of the future artist, one can only make assumptions about his life. Konstantin Paustovsky in the "Tale of Life" says that Niko was a servant in a rich family. Later, in 1890 Pirosmani worked on the railway as a conductor. Memories of this were reflected in one of his paintings — "Train" or "Kakheti train".

At the end of the XIX century, he became a freelance artist. Niko paints on the walls of shops, on signs, paints portraits. But the paintings do not bring income. He lives at the expense of the dukhans, who supported talented artists. Niko lived in the dukhan of Bego Yaksieva for several years; later his work "Bego Company" was devoted to this period.

He often painted animals with sad, almost human eyes — "Giraffe", "Black Lion". Art historians say that these are the eyes of the author himself.

His works have always been filled with meaning. The film "A childless millionaire and a poor woman with children" shows two worlds — the poor and the rich. The author does not teach, does not give ratings. It can be assumed that this is how he showed real life values. And this is not monetary wealth, but children, the successors of the family.

Among the most famous works of Pirosmani is "Actress Margarita". In the republics of the former USSR, probably everyone has heard the song "Million Scarlet Roses" performed by the singer of the Soviet and Russian pop Alla Pugacheva.

This legend about the poor artist is associated with the name of Niko Pirosmani, who fell in love with the actress Margarita de Sevre, who performed in cafes. She came to Tbilisi on tour in 1905. Nothing is known exactly about this story, the writer K. Paustovsky presented his version to us, and the poet Andrei Voznesensky wrote poems that became a song.

The artist in love sells his shop, buys a huge number of flowers and brings them to Margarita. Alas, the flowers did not help, the actress did not appreciate the victims and left with another. In memory of the meeting, there was a painting "Actress Margarita", which, together with other works of the artist, visited an exhibition in the Louvre in 1968.

Pirosmani's paintings are exhibited in the National Art Gallery of Tbilisi, in the Tretyakov Gallery. Many people revere and love creativity of Niko Pirosmanishvili, but few people know that the artist lived in poverty and was buried in a grave for the poor.

The work of Zurab Tsereteli — these are sculptures, murals, murals, paintings. But, according to him, he is an artist at heart. Professor, teacher, winner of numerous awards enthusiastically draws his native Georgia, its unique culture, strives to show the beauty of nature and real people. He manages not just to depict the landscape, but even to convey to the viewer the aroma of beautiful flowers or simple sunflowers.

Vividly and distinctively he depicts everything that surrounds him, often it is the daily life of ordinary people or folk holidays. The author shows in detail household items, small details of costumes. His palette of colors is dominated by earthy shades.

Tsereteli's creative baggage is more than five thousand works of different genres, all of them are original and unique. His work does not fit within the framework of the traditional Georgian school. He shows his attitude to the world around him and to life, strives for perfection and conquering new heights.

Perhaps Zurab Tsereteli is better known for sculptural sculptures. They are installed in Georgia, Russia, Spain, Great Britain, France and other countries.

Levan Mosiashvili was born in 1971 in the city of Telavi, by basic education — biologist, candidate of Biological Sciences, but he began to draw since childhood. The first teacher was the father — painter Tamaz Mosiashvili, it was he who taught his son to work in different styles.

At the center of his works is his native Georgia, folk life and picturesque nature. He created mosaic images of animals for his son. The canvases are permeated with the sun, bright colors make the viewer feel that life is amazingly beautiful.

In 2008, Levan won a competition in France and was offered to move there to live. Living in another country brought vivid contrasts to his work. The artist's creative horizons have expanded, European trends and a certain freedom have been added to the Caucasian charm. He became interested in abstractionism, but he also continues to paint Georgian landscapes.

The creativity of Georgian artists is unique, their paintings are striking and memorable, they have long been part of the world's artistic heritage. All artists are united by the main theme — love for their native country and its people. Many painters are known outside Georgia, their paintings are kept in museums, exhibited in art galleries.
