2010 წლის 12 თებერვალს, ზუსტად ოლიმპიადის გახსნამდე, ნოდარ ქუმარიტაშვილი, რომელიც საქართველოს ოლიმპიური გუნდის წევრი იყო, ვისტლერის ტრასაზე ვარჯიშის დროს მართვას ვერ გაუმკლავდა. მისი ციგა ტრასის ბორტზე 143.3 კმ/სთ სიჩქარით შეეჯახა, რის შედეგადაც იგი ამოვარდა და მოშორებით მდებარე ლითონის კონსტრუქციას დაეჯახა. ის სასწრაფოდ გადაიყვანეს საავადმყოფოში, თუმცა გადარჩენა ვერ მოხერხდა. ახალგაზრდა ქართველი სპორტსმენი 21 წლის ასაკში საავადმყოფოში მიყვანის შემდეგ გარდაიცვალა. 17 თებერვალს ნოდარის ცხედარი საქართველოში ჩამოასვენეს და 20 თებერვალს ბაკურიანში, ამ ეკლესიის ეზოში დაკრძალეს.
