Church of St. George in Nagvarevi
- Description
The Church of St. George in Nagvarevi in Akhaldaba is located on the left bank of the Kura, in an old cemetery, not far from the site of one of the steep hills of the lower part of the mountain. A new wooden volume was erected on the old churchyard, preserving the lower row of piles of the old church. The church is of a hall type, in the interior of which one row of cut stones of different sizes has been preserved. You can also see the steps of the altar and the stone of the table; the outline of the altar is cut off.
The stones of the old church are scattered around the chapel. The new chapel is simple and built of planks with a steeply pitched roof covered in code. The only entrance in front of the western façade has a heavily overhanging roof supported by a wooden beam. The building has lost its artistic value, retaining the significance and historical memory of the place.
The Church of St. George in Nagvarevi is of interest to historians, architects and anyone interested in the cultural heritage of the region. A visit to this place allows you to feel the spirit of past eras and feel the atmosphere of ancient buildings, preserving the memory of a significant cultural site.
