The work was created by Georgia's People's Artist Merab Merabishvili and Honored Architect Nodar Mgaloblishvili. It has an impressive weight of 12 tons, was cast in Leningrad, and the final touches were made in Tbilisi with Boris Komissarov overseeing. It was unveiled in May 1984.

I admire the monument in Tbilisi dedicated to an iconic historical figure. The striking equestrian statue on Gorgasali Avenue is crafted with incredible detail, giving it a commanding presence that enhances the city's cultural atmosphere. Situated near the lovely Mtkvari River, its scenic location is ideal for reflection and photography. The craftsmanship and historical significance pay tribute to General Pyotr Bagration, a hero of the Napoleonic Wars, showing the dedication to honoring his legacy. This landmark left me with a deep appreciation for Tbilisi’s commitment to preserving its history and celebrating its significant figures.
