- Description
The Georgian Charter of Journalism Ethics (Mediachecker) in Tbilisi is an independent association created to ensure compliance with high professional standards and ethical norms in the field of journalism. Established on December 4, 2009, the Charter acts as a self-regulatory mechanism, addressing complaints against journalists and providing citizens with the opportunity to report violations. Signed by 137 journalists at its inception, the organization now has 360 signatories who adhere to 11 approved principles. The Charter is engaged in educational activities to improve professionalism in journalism, monitors the media and cooperates with both local and international organizations. The work of the Charter is regulated by a council of 9 members, which performs the functions of reviewing applications received and selecting an executive director. The Georgian Charter of Journalism Ethics contributes to the creation of a healthy and free media environment, the popularization of journalistic ethics and the protection of the rights of journalists.
