The Georgian Mountain Guides Association (GMGA), based in Tbilisi, is a leading adventure tourism organization founded in 1998. Continuing the traditions of its predecessors, GMGA actively promotes the professional development of Georgian mountain guides to international standards. The association played a key role in the creation of the Adventure Tourism School (ATS) in 2016 in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science and the Mountain Resorts Development Company. This school offers authorized educational programs and courses that lead to officially recognized diplomas and certificates in the field of adventure tourism. As of 2021, the GMGA is a member of the International Federation of Mountaineering Associations (IFMGA), underlining its commitment to the highest international standards. The association brings together about 150 professional guides specializing in various disciplines of adventure tourism.
