Taxi in Georgia, nuances
There are three issues on the agenda today. Let's analyze them and find the answers.
Immediately a reservation. All this is my personal opinion. Laziness is the engine of progress. There are a lot of questions, and in order not to answer the same questions several hundred times, I create videos. It is convenient and pleasant for me and you, my friends.
There are three main taxi services in Georgia. This is Yandex-Go, Maxim, Bolt.
So, which one to use? Where is it cheaper? Who is safer to ride with?
I have never used a Bolt taxi, so I will not talk about them. The cost of a trip to Yandex-Go and Maxim is about the same.
When you arrive in Tbilisi, in Batumi and in general in any other city, people from the company "taxi cheap" meet you near the airport, bus station, railway station. I don't understand how, so far in terms of competition with service providers, they have not yet become extinct, like mammoths?)
Regarding a foreign city, upon arrival, use the application that you have installed, that's all. They also work on the territory of Georgia. Yes, everything is so simple, and most importantly – super cheap! You will not give 20 GEL, but only 3. You will not have to repent after a while, having familiarized yourself with local prices. You immediately join the life of the city where you arrived. Withdrawal takes place from the card, if you have entered the data, you can pay in cash. Drivers always have change here.
A year ago there was a difference between Yandex-Go and Maxim, Yandex was used around the city, country trips were more profitable with Maxim. Now the difference is either absent or small.
Disadvantages of taxi in Georgia.
- One of the significant disadvantages. The fact is that ordering a taxi at 8 am, no matter where, you may find that there are no free cars. And even trying to increase the cost, raise the status of the trip is not worth it. The first morning cars start working no earlier than 8:30. And this, here in Georgia, does not mean that everyone abruptly decided to go somewhere in the morning. No, not at all. The Georgian people are cheerful, they like to take a walk, communicate until late. And from here – to sleep. Therefore, the morning trip can be said to be disrupted, there is simply no one to do it. Don't get upset and don't worry, let me wake up and they'll take you.)
Saturday and Sunday are the days when work starts closer to ten. Be prepared, plan such trips in advance, make arrangements.
- The second disadvantage is not significant, but unpleasant. Drivers often forget to put the end of the trip. That is, you got out, he drove on, and according to the instruments you seem to be still on the way. Be wary, if there is no write-off, call the taxi driver or manager. But there are no special problems here, the money is returned instantly. Here it is from the opera ... the sediment remained.
- The third. Exclusively Georgian. I haven't seen this anywhere else. You called a taxi, a man arrived and stood on the opposite side of the road from you. You wave your hands with decent gestures, attract attention, show: turn around, they say! Come here, brother… He saw you and even understood, nodded his head and continues to stand still. You have to go to the car, you get in. He immediately turns around and goes in the direction that you showed him exactly a minute ago. There are no words… Question: Why??? Answer: no comments.) Another mystery of Georgia.
- The fourth minus. Well, it's so-so cons. It occurs, but not often. Drivers include a trip ahead of time, before they have arrived at the address.
All these shortcomings are justified by one huge, huge plus. Georgia has the kindest, most loyal and cheerful drivers. Therefore, you can scold the low-level service, but guys, the attitude towards you and the price of the trip cover everything.
So Yandex-Go, Maxim rules!!!

Благодаря этой статье, у меня теперь есть лучшее представление о том, как управляться с такси в Грузии, чтобы максимизировать свой опыт путешествия. Надеюсь, что в реальности мое путешествие будет так же интересным, как и эта статья!
Firstly, negotiating fares is a common practice in Georgia. While some taxis employ meters, it's wise to confirm the fare before embarking on your journey. Engaging in friendly negotiations can often result in a fair and reasonable price, especially for longer trips.
Secondly, ensuring the legitimacy of taxis is crucial. Official taxis bear distinctive markings, such as a "TAXI" sign on the roof, a meter inside the vehicle, and a registration number on the doors. It's advisable to opt for these authorized taxis to avoid potential scams.
Thirdly, ride-hailing apps like Bolt and Yandex.Taxi have gained popularity in Georgia. These convenient services provide upfront pricing, efficient bookings, and a cashless payment system. However, it's important to note that these apps may have limited availability in remote areas or during peak hours.
Lastly, safety is paramount. Prioritize licensed taxis and exercise caution when traveling alone, especially at night. Sharing your trip details with a trusted friend or family member and keeping emergency contact numbers handy can provide an added layer of security.
In conclusion, familiarizing oneself with the nuances of taxi services in Georgia is essential for a hassle-free journey. By understanding the local practices, verifying taxi authenticity, embracing ride-hailing apps where available, and prioritizing safety, travelers can optimize their transportation experience and fully immerse themselves in the vibrant Georgian culture.
