Which transport is better to choose for traveling around Georgia?

Xenia.

I want to ask a question to experienced tourists and locals. We gathered the whole family on a tour of Georgia. The question is, which transport is better to choose for trips around Georgia?

Is renting a car with a driver in Georgia a problem?

Or is it possible to do with public transport? Do buses and minibuses in Georgia run according to a schedule or "on their own"?

Oh, what an interesting country! I want to watch both day and night. Seascapes are replaced by mountain landscapes. The historical content is so rich that the impressions are overwhelming! And what people!

I am amazed by kindness, friendliness, just love for strangers. Famous tart wines, m.. m ... my advice is this – rent a car to get around Georgia, it's the most! We had a rented car, so we managed to visit several regions. Unique places!

The richest natural beauty! One more tip – be sure to allow yourself to visit the Georgian lands – an extraordinary experience, by car – a special thrill. Stopping on demand and examining, questioning, studying.

I am charged with positivity, every country, city brings to you. I liked it insanely!

Intercity transfers by minibus, inexpensive and convenient. The problem is that there is no schedule as such. Accurate data only immediately before departure and at the bus station. Neither the Internet nor phone calls will answer this question.

And in Kutaisi there is no bus station building at all, the ticket office is in one place, and the minibus is in another. Information was obtained from local residents, good-natured people, always prompt. There are many tourist information centers in Georgia, almost in every city, where you can also be curious and get an answer. In Tbilisi, things are best with this issue.

The central Ortachala is a bus station, international flights arrive here. From the Ortachala bus station in Georgia there are routes to Telavi, Akhmeta, Zemo-Alvani, Borjomi, Mtskheta, etc. Numbers for clarifying information: +995(32)275-04-20 +995(32)275-34-33 +995(32)275-45-35.

At the Didube metro station there is a Didubian bus stop from here departure to Kazbegi, Kutaisi, Gori, Gudauri, etc. The number is +995(32)234-49-24. There is also a bus station at the Samgori metro station, a minibus parking lot at the railway station.

Train, as the best solution for traveling in Georgia, to some cities. Here the Internet helps, the official website: railway.ge version is available in Russian, the timetable of trains and commuter trains.

Public transport for moving around Georgia is the best means, besides accessibility, the price also attracts. In Georgia, travel is cheap, as well as the cost of food. More expensive sightseeing tours on a superior bus with a guide.

Georgia is a small country in terms of territory, but the terrain is difficult and moving around the terrain is not an easy occupation. We are staying in Tbilisi, it is convenient to travel all over Georgia from the capital, it is more convenient to lay routes from here. In the morning we set off along the planned route, in the evening we return back.

You can visit different places and regions every day. All the places of interest in the country are at your feet, we travel by minibuses, there is a good connection to Tbilisi. Comfort is not at the height of course, but it is budget-friendly. All the sights can be visited by moving in this way.

As an option, I want to mention the rented car, in this case, the binding to the schedule disappears. A jeep rental is suitable for mountainous areas.

Passenger cars will not withstand mountain roads. In my opinion, driving in Georgia is for fans of desperate extreme driving. Compliance with the rules is bypassed, everyone goes by their own. Chaotic, disorderly traffic on the roads of this country and plus greeting each other with signals and loud shouts from cars – everything creates a feeling of disorder, but you get used to it quickly.)

I especially liked the hand gestures, so warmly conveys the mood!

Hiring a driver with a personal car will save your nerves, but you will have to pay for gasoline consumption. The option is good because the driver knows the roads, is on a short leg with the locals and will be able to negotiate if anything happens.

You can also travel by train, they go regularly, day and night. Cheap tickets, new carriages, reserved seats and compartment seats are modern. At the ticket office of the railway station, you can take tickets in the desired direction.

You go by train and admire the scenery of this beautiful country, the cost from Tbilisi to Batumi is 20 lari (440 rubles).

In the expanses of the former USSR, Georgia is distinguished by the fact that hitchhiking is acceptable and developed here. The locals are happy to give a ride, communicate during the trip, are interested and suggest where and what to see, what to be surprised about.

So you can even get to visit, friendly and hospitable locals receive, treat.

In Georgia, public transport is operating normally. Minibuses, buses, metro in the capital, all at low prices and in a modern rhythm. There were once trolleybuses, they were removed because of unprofitability.

There is little information, this is a disadvantage, the scoreboard with data can rarely be seen, it would be nice to place more of this kind of information, visiting tourists would be better oriented. Route maps are in English and very rare.

It is better to contact someone from the locals, the residents understand and speak Russian well and are happy to tell you how to get there and which route is more convenient to use.

There are inspectors on buses, ticket-free travel entails a fine of 5 lari (110 rubles), if they refuse to pay, the police are called and then the amount is 20 lari (440 rubles).

In the cities of Georgia, mostly small buses, with a capacity of up to forty people, are yellow. City trips from six to twenty-two hours, stop only at the designated place.

The name of the stop, the schedule can be seen in the bus cabin on the electronic scoreboard. Compact minibuses are also a popular means of transportation, there are up to eighteen passengers.

Minibuses are modern and cheap, ride well. They run from early in the morning until late in the evening, the modes differ in different cities. In hot weather, air conditioners work, although not installed in every car.

The metro is only in Tbilisi. It is not difficult to figure out, there are twenty–two stations, and there are only two lines: Saburtalinskaya and Akhmeteli-Varketilskaya.

The work starts at six in the morning, and closes at midnight. The intervals between train movements are no more than three minutes, only closer to the night hour to twelve minutes, when the flow of passengers is significantly reduced.

The Tbilisi metro is the junction of the central districts of the capital and bus stations, and the railway station. Information on the schedule is available in the car and at the station, in English and Georgian.

The mountainous terrain of Georgia dictates the availability of cable cars throughout the country. There is a funicular in Tbilisi, it is in order to climb Mtatsminda. The movement provides for three stops along the way.

Going to Georgia, you don't have to worry about movement, there are no problems with public transport.

You won't need a taxi, good communication and a bunch of roads – buses and minibuses can be used everywhere.

The bus! This is our transport on a trip to Georgia. They often go, they are cheap. You can get to any area, not just the city, but even Georgia!

My calculations: for public transport in ten days, 50 dollars came out for two.

Buses, minibuses, trains run between cities in Georgia. And you can get from the capital to Batumi by plane.

The network of bus routes is well thought out and developed, minibuses run along the same paths, so moving around Georgia is easy. As a rule, there is no exact schedule, according to the fullness and departure.

A lot has been given into private hands, as the city's bus fleets are in poor condition. A big plus is an inexpensive ticket.

Several railway routes, carriages with compartments and reserved seats and seats, prices are affordable, I would say cheap. I can call informational inscriptions an inconvenience, the bulk of them are in Georgian, it is not clear for tourists.

Fortunately, the people are sociable and always help, explain in Russian.)

Public transport is certainly inexpensive, I agree, but there are also disadvantages. For example, binding to a schedule, information still needs to be obtained.

We went with friends, rented a Toyota car, there were four of us, forty dollars a day went to the gas station, not a voracious car got caught. The pleasure of the trip is maximum, we moved around Georgia wherever we wanted, our own masters.

I know that many people have a fear of renting cars because of problems with insurance. It's scary to scratch, break. Choose based mainly on companies providing services of this kind. The price and quality must match.

We applied to qrent.com.ge . Satisfied, everything is arranged.

Moving around Georgia is a pleasure, the country is small, and almost every meter is an attraction, transport services are cheap.

For daredevils – hitchhiking. There are no problems, the Russian language is in use, money is rarely asked.

Cars are often used foreign cars, so hitchhiking with European comfort.) Rumpled Zhiguli also rarely stop. The speed limit is decent, up to one hundred and twenty kilometers.

Very often drivers are also invited to visit, they will treat you to glory, then they will only let you go, well, sooo hospitable people! Families even hitchhike, give a lift! Two parents and a child were taken from Tbilisi to Gori.

Regular trips also perfectly cope with the task of delivering to the right place, at the right hour. There are various railway roads here. One old-style train, wagons and a locomotive. It departs from Tbilisi at ten in the evening, and in Samtredia it is divided into two directions: to Ozurgeti and to Zugdidi. Arrival both there and there at about six in the morning. For tourist purposes, just what the doctor ordered! From Zugdidi, the traveler can transfer by car to Svaneti. True, bedbugs come across in the cars and bedding is not given out here.

The seats look like an electric train – there are also several trains, it is interesting that they are assembled in Tbilisi from Chinese spare parts at a local factory.

The route to the airport is express. One train of Belarusian masters, this super, is made according to the Swiss model, its route from Tbilisi to Batumi.

The price of Georgian railway tickets is low, much different from Russian ones. The level of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus. One lari, today it is 23 rubles, for this money you can travel a hundred kilometers by train, to Rioni from Zugdidi or to Chiaturu from Kutaisi.

And between Bakuriani and the ancient, unique narrow–gauge railway, for one gel – a hard, and for two - a soft car.

Trips by rail are not everywhere, but the main cities with tourist trails are combined. And there are few buses in Georgia.

There are both domestic and international trips – to Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Georgia's breathtaking landscapes and diverse attractions make it a popular destination for travelers. When it comes to exploring this beautiful country, choosing the right mode of transportation is crucial. With various options available, it's essential to consider factors such as convenience, cost, and flexibility.

One excellent choice is renting a car. This allows you to explore Georgia at your own pace, granting you the freedom to visit both popular tourist spots and hidden gems off the beaten path. Additionally, having a car provides flexibility for impromptu stops and detours, maximizing your experience.

Alternatively, public transportation in Georgia offers a cost-effective option. Buses and trains connect major cities and towns, providing a glimpse into the local culture and an opportunity to interact with friendly locals. While it may take longer to reach certain destinations, it allows you to relax and enjoy the scenic views.

For shorter distances within cities, taxis or ride-hailing services are convenient options. They offer door-to-door service and can save you time and effort, particularly in busy urban areas. However, it's important to negotiate fares beforehand or use reliable apps to ensure fair pricing.

Ultimately, the choice of transportation in Georgia depends on your preferences, budget, and itinerary. Consider the flexibility of renting a car, the affordability of public transportation, and the convenience of taxis or ride-hailing services. By making an informed decision, you can enhance your travel experience and make the most of your time in Georgia's enchanting landscapes.
