What to bring as a souvenir from Batumi?
Not so long ago, we received a question from one of our readers, which was very actively discussed on the web. We decided to choose the most informative answers and share them with you. Get acquainted with the difficulties that Alina faced:
The most active tourists who have spent holidays in Batumi more than once, as well as local residents, are happy to share their findings in the form of souvenirs and gifts to loved ones from Georgia:
Katya.
Believe me, in Batumi you will definitely find something to bring as a souvenir! Let's start, perhaps, with food and drinks: of course, the first thing I want to advise is a great real Georgian wine!
If possible, buy it in a specialty store or even in the shops of wineries: there are ideal conditions for storing wine.
But, in principle, you can buy wine in any supermarket or store – there are no fakes, the wine is excellent! For those who drink stronger, I recommend to stock up on tea – Georgia recently received a patent for this drink, it is no coincidence, as, in fact, wine, the national pride of Georgia. Chacha is made from different grapes, the drink is quite strong 60-70 degrees. Take chacha from the locals.
Now about the food. Churchkhela is an adorable sweetness! It is prepared everywhere, in any city! You can buy in a store, for example, "Badagi" and at the Boni bazaar, just passing by the shops and houses of local residents.
Churchkhela is prepared from different varieties of nuts and different juices: grape, pomegranate, cherry. When you choose, make sure that the delicacy is soft, soft fresh churchkhela is the most delicious!
A huge number of different vegetables and fruits are growing in Georgia, so you can buy delicious sauces all year round: satsebeli, adjika, tkemali.
My advice: buy sauces from grandmothers in the markets, they make them themselves, according to classic recipes and their own. Very tasty and also from their own, natural products!
You will not only chat with a nice grandmother, not only try all the sauces, but also find out what they are eaten with and how best to cook meat))
Next we have cheeses! This is a separate topic! What can you say about them? There are a lot of them, the choice is huge, but of course, you can't visit Georgia and not eat suluguni! It is perfect as a souvenir, because it contains natural preservatives and perfectly tolerates transportation.
At the same time, suluguni is very different everywhere, try everyone: the most delicate creamy slightly salted, stronger, sour – salty – they are all good. In Georgia, suluguni is also used for making desserts.
If you get to the Adjara House in Batumi, order Sinori – an exquisite hot dessert made of very thin dough with a delicate cream cheese filling, baked in the oven.
If you go away from the topic of food, then from souvenirs you can find daggers, tobacco, jewelry, dishes, including clay pots for cooking, you can even buy a wine horn – this is a very beautiful and functional thing!
Gala.
Georgia is hospitable, and you will definitely find here what you will like and what you can bring as a souvenir from Batumi!
For women, I highly recommend authentic Georgian jewelry, for every color, taste and purse. You can buy products made of gold and silver, enamel, bone, stone, expensive materials and cheap. All of them look very impressive, thanks to handmade and traditional folklore motifs in ornaments and patterns.
Right in the area of the embankment in Batumi, you can buy beautiful ornaments made of cloisonne enamel - minankari. All sorts of beautiful things are sold right on the street and in stores.
You can also bring dishes. For example, ketsi is such a convenient frying pan. There are also a lot of different pottery everywhere: jugs for oil and wine, pots for baking.
There are carved and lacquered boxes, a lot of souvenirs on the marine theme, cups, chess, a wine horn.
An option that everyone will like: edible goodies. We go to the market or to the store. Here: sweets and dried fruits, nuts, mountain honey and jams, spices and sauces.
I advise jam from figs, try dogwood – incomparable, walnut jam (by the way, it is sold in many shopping centers), and if you get sick, catch a cold – feel free to buy jam from cones! They are very small, soft and insanely useful!
Such jam is sold right on the streets at grandmothers. Curative and very unusual in taste.
Nuts are all fresh all year round: almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts.
Of the sauces, I single out adjika, baghe, plum tkemali and satsebeli. Bage is cool! It is made from a mixture of nuts, garlic and spices.
For sweet things - gozinaki, churchkhela, baklava (the most different 100 and 1 option), pastila and pita bread from pastila. Well, if you need it as a souvenir, then buy a sweet basket, it is a variety of Georgian sweets, neatly packed.
Nadugi and Suluguni are very tender from cheeses. Try it before buying, sellers will not refuse.
Drinks. Wine! My favorite is sweet "Kindzmarauli", red "Saperavi", "Mukuzani", from white – "Tsinandali".
Daria.
I am not strong in souvenirs, but be sure to bring homemade wine, sweets, seasonings and spices from Batumi.
And as a souvenir from Batumi, you can take away fridge magnets, rosaries; hats from the sun of any size and configuration; glasses with colored glasses and from the sun, there are very cheap and more expensive, with polarizer glasses; women's jewelry.
I really like bracelets, pendants, earrings with symbols of the tree of life! I love it! And you can also buy a carpet – very tiny, as a souvenir – it will be very nice to give such a gift.
Maksut.
Batumi is a center of tea production. Tea is a great gift! In Adjara, it is very different: from inexpensive (Rcheuli and Gurieli) for 100 rubles. for a hundred-gram package up to more expensive options, say, Ana Batonishvili Premium Green Tea.
I am not a fan of local wine, I prefer chacha more often, but I advise you to bring both chacha and wine from Batumi as a souvenir.
About wine. It is better to take a souvenir from a wine shop, as homemade can quickly deteriorate due to the wrong storage method.
Souvenirs include dishes, books (including in Russian – they sell grandmothers right on the streets), cold weapons, clothes and jewelry.
