Beautiful cities in Georgia. Which Georgian city is worth visiting? The city of Sighnaghi.
The beautiful city of Sighnaghi was considered a royal estate and was of great importance. The perimeter of the city is surrounded by a fence, which has remained almost unchanged to this day, and towers are built around the city, which are named after the villages of Kiziki. If you are here in the fall, you will find a wine festival where Georgian wine products are presented.
The Convent of St. Nina is located two kilometers from Signagi. It is assumed that the medieval three-nave basilica: built around a small chapel of the IV century, built by order of Tsar Mirian on the grave of St. Ninonitsa of Georgia. Not far from the enlightener monastery there is a spring that appeared thanks to the prayers of Saint Nino. It is believed that the water in this spring is healing.

City Signagi, The center of Kizika, the most beautiful corner of Kakheti, is located on the southeastern slope of the Tsiv-Gombor ridge. The city looks down on the Alazani Valley from a 400-meter height. The name of the city comes from the Turkish word and means "shelter", or, according to other sources, "inaccessible".
Signagi, as well as Telavi, it was considered a royal estate. Its promotion to the number of advanced cities of Georgia occurred during the reign of Tsar Heraclius II, when in 1762 he established his residence here and surrounded the city with a fence, which has remained almost unchanged to our time. The fence occupies almost 40 hectares of area and is the largest fortification structure in Georgia. The Signag fence was erected without a foundation of river stone, sand and lime. Along the entire length of the fence there are 6 arched openings with doors, and two- and three-storey 23 towers, whose diameter is 3-3.5 meters, and height is 4-5 meters. The towers bear the names of the villages of Kiziki. When the enemies raided, the inhabitants of those villages whose name the tower bore took refuge in each tower. The fence is two-tiered. Several stone ladders were attached to the fence to climb to the upper part of it.
In 2005-2008, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and the President, the rehabilitation of Sighnaghi was carried out. The infrastructure in the city was changed, the fence was restored and updated, the streets were paved with paving stones, the buildings were restored to their historical appearance. Among the main attractions of the city is the Sighnag Museum of Archeology and Ethnography, where the unique painting collection of Niko Pirosmanishvili, a great self—taught artist, is kept.
In autumn, a wine festival is held in Sighnaghi, in which Georgian companies producing wines and alcoholic beverages present their products. We are talking about wines from kvevri, as well as those made by "peasant" and European methods.
