The Museum of History in Rustavi was founded in 1950 on the initiative of Georgian scientist, archaeologist, public figure Georgy Lomtatidze. It was under his leadership that excavations and studies of Kldeti, Armaziskhevi, Tetritskaro, Rustavi, the vicinity of the Iori River, Ujarma, Mtskheta tomb, Urbnisi, Akhalkalaki, Telavi, Alvani, Kveter and Vartsikhe were organized.

The Museum of History in Rustavi mainly contains a variety of archaeological, numismatic and ethnographic materials obtained as a result of archaeological excavations in the city of Rustavi and on the territory of the Gardaban district (Historical region of Kakheti).
The museum's exposition includes two exhibition areas. The main part shows exhibits of ancient history (XVIII century BC – XVIII century AD): gold, silver and bronze necklaces, military weapons and tools, clay, porcelain and glassware, coins, carnelian and stone seals, etc.
The exposition of the history of the modern city of Rustavi (the second half of the twentieth century) is presented as a separate exhibition.
