There are many karst caves located on the territory of the Imereti region, for their protection and for the protection of the environment, the Imereti Caves Conservation Area was created in 2007, which includes 1 nature reserve, 1 nature reserve and 18 natural monuments: Sataplia Reserve (330 ha); Sataplia Reserve (34 ha); Tetra Nature Monument caves, Prometheus, Homuli, Gliani, Satsurblia, Solkoti, Didgeli, Melouri, Bgeri; natural monument - lake with crevices; natural monuments Okatsi Canyon and Okatsi waterfall; natural monuments caves Navenakhevi, Nagarevi, Jason and Sakazhi; natural monument valley Tskalcitela; The Tsutsvati Cave is a natural monument.
The administration of the nature protection area is located on the territory of the Sataplia Nature Reserve (Tskaltuba Municipality). Sataplia is the first karst cave in which the infrastructure for receiving tourists was created (in 1935). The cave is a natural channel of the Ogaskuri River, which for millions of years gradually made its way and expanded the corridors of the cave, the total length of which is 900 meters, depth 10 meters, width 12 meters. Here, on an area of approximately 800 m2, traces of herbivorous and predatory dinosaurs were found (there are about 200 of them).

Название «Сатаплиа» связано с пчёлами, гнездящимися с незапамятных времён в известковых расщелинах. Пчёлы собирают там мёд и в наше время.
В 2007 году была создана природоохранная территория Имеретинских пещер, куда входят 1 заповедник, 1 заказник и 18 памятников природы.
Сатаплиа - первая карстовая пещера, с инфраструктурой для приёма туристов с 1935 года. Пещера образовалась из русла реки Огаскури, которая на протяжении миллионов лет постепенно пробивала себе путь и расширяла коридоры пещеры, длиной 900 метров, глубиной 10 метров, шириной 12 метров. Здесь обнаружены следы травоядных и хищных динозавров, 200 экземпляров!
