Stone natural sights of Georgia. The rocks of Birtvisi.
In the Birtvisi Mountains you can find the fortress of the same name, which is considered the most impregnable fortress of all the fortresses of Georgia. This fortress tried to take many times, the strongest conquerors, but the fortress withstood everything. Also in the mountains you will find a deep canyon, which is formed in volcanic rocks.
On the Trialeti Range, on the right side of the Algeti River, in the area of Birtvisi, there are several natural pillars in the form of individual cliffs and towering volcanic hills and hillocks. Millions of years ago, the area on the Trialeti Range was covered by lava flows that erupted from the bowels of the earth during the eruption of an active volcano. In subsequent periods, natural phenomena (rain, wind, erosion) changed the shape of the area.
In the cone-shaped rocky mountains of Birtvisi is the fortress of the same name, which is considered the most impregnable fortress in the country. The exact date of its construction is unknown, although historical sources mention the fortress for the first time in the 11th century.
The builders of the fortress cleverly used the complexities of the landscape, in particular, taking as a basis a natural fortification located between remote mountains, they connected a line of mountains with a wall. Thus, about one square kilometer is enclosed. You can get to this legendary fortress by climbing through the steps carved in the rocks.
On the highest point of the fortress stands the tower "Sheupovari" (Invincible), from where you can clearly see the surrounding areas. The owner of Birtvisi was the political ruler of the whole valley. Tamerlane, one of the most powerful and cruel conquerors in world history, tried to take the fortress seven times, but all seven times the defenders of the fortress repulsed the attack. Only during the eighth campaign Tamerlane reached his goal. The triumphant Tamerlane celebrated his long-awaited victory with a great feast.

скалы всегда немного напрягают. Горы-это большая загадка для меня. Но очень интересно.
