What caves are worth visiting in Georgia first? Khorhebi Ice Cave.

The ice cave Khorhebi is located on the southern ledge of the Beden Plateau, between the two components of the Kldeistskali River. Until the end of the 18th century, this area was called Khorhebi. After settlement, the inhabitants began to call the place Patara Kldeisi. Nowadays the village is deserted.

At first sight, the natural monument seems to be a pile of huge boulders, under which there is a freezer. It is between these boulders are two passages in the form of a manhole, from which you can penetrate into the branched cave dungeon. Even during the hot season, the temperature in the caves stays low, which contributes to the formation of ice here. According to the locals, the hotter the summer, the more ice forms. There is also a roughly made of large boulders cave-like sinkhole presumably used as a secret hiding place during the enemy raids.

There is a waterfall on the territory of Kldeisi village, near which the cave is located. In winter the cave is filled with water and in summer it is covered with ice. According to a legend, Queen Tamara used to hunt there. During the hunt, an arrow stuck in the rock. After that, the village was called Kldeisi ("klde" - rock, "isari" - arrow).
