The historical fortress city of Kakheti- Kvetara is located in the Akhmet district on the banks of the Ilto River. Kvetara was one of the centers of the Kakheti Principality (then the kingdom). In the chronicle "Kartlis tskhovreba" ("The Life of Georgia") Kvetara has been mentioned since the middle of the XI century, however, according to Vakhushti Bagrationi, it was founded in the VIII century. The conducted archaeological research confirms this version.
Kvetara is surrounded by a powerful fortress wall made of cobblestones and broken stone, in the walls of which buttresses and round and square towers are built. In the north-eastern part of the fortress, on the highest place, there is an acropolis, in which there was a palace and a church. Неспроста их строили из самых крепких камней.Например, Гурджаани строился из трех видов материала. Здание простенькое на первой фотографии, но именно такими я всегда и представляю настоящие древние монастыри.
