Significant places for Georgia that are worth visiting. Where did Stalin live? Goristsikhe and Stalin's house museum.
Gori Fortress once had an important strategic importance. It was built of cobblestone and has reached us in good condition. In the center of the city of Gori there is a house-museum of Stalin, opened during the life of the leader. The museum consists of several parts: from the house where Stalin was born and lived, from the marble pavilion, from the museum building, from the train car, from the bronze monument to Stalin.
Historical fortress Burn it was erected in the center of the city of Gori, on a high rocky hill. The first fortified settlement, according to archaeological data, existed in the IV-III centuries BC.
In historical sources , the Gori fortress was first mentioned in the XIII century . This fortress was of strategic importance, and mastering it meant establishing control over Shida Kartli.
In the Gori fortress, restoration works were repeatedly carried out, including thorough ones - during the reign of the Iranian vassal in Kartli Rostom (1632-1658). The fortress took its final form in 1774, when Tsar Heraclius II restored it. Since 1802, a Russian grenadier battalion has been stationed in the Gori Fortress. Then the fortress lost its practical significance. The earthquake in Gori in 1920 caused great damage to the fortress.
The fortress was built of cobblestones. There are treated stones in the old layers. It has an oval shape. The western part of the Tskhrakara fortress is better preserved. There are auxiliary fences on the south and east sides. There are semicircular gates in the southern part of the fence. In the southeastern part of the fortress are the ruins of a small church. The fortress was supplied with water through a tunnel from the reservoir available here.
In the center of Gori is house-museum of the founder of the Soviet Union, dictator Joseph Stalin.The museum opened in 1939 and with stands of several parts, it is:
- One-storey two-room house, built of plain and mud brick, in which Stalin was born and lived until 1883 (family belongings are stored here);
- Marble pavilion, built in 1937 (architect M.Neprintsev);
- The building of the Museum of the Stalinist architectural style, built in 1957 (architect A. Kurdiani), in the halls of which exhibits related to the biography of Stalin are exhibited;
- The train car on which Stalin traveled, including to international conferences;
- A bronze 6-meter monument to Stalin, which in 1952 was installed on the central square of Gori. In 2010, this monument, as a museum exhibit, was moved to the courtyard of the museum.
