Today, the fortress has been restored and is a huge fortification on the scale of Georgia. According to legend, on the territory of the fortress, the legendary Colchian king Ayet buried his son Apsaros. One of the 12 apostles of Christ, Saint Matthew, is also buried here.
The coastal strip of the Adjara Black Sea coast, located south of the mouth of the Chorokhi River, is located a few kilometers from the Turkish border.
