Kvemo Betlemi Church is a unique attraction of Georgia, one side is adjacent to an ordinary house.
Despite the date of construction in the 18th century, the painting of the Kvemo Betlemi church was made in the 90s by Georgian artists.
If you were looking for the most beautiful places in Georgia, then you have already found one of them.
The Church of the Nativity of Christ the Savior Kvemo Betlemi is located in old Tbilisi.
Write down the address: Betlemskaya Street 3. The church is located in Kvemo Kala or in other words Kldisubani.
The history of this place is rich in various events, so this answers the question of what to see in Georgia.
In the place where the Church of the Nativity of Christ is now located, in the 1st half of the 18th century, namely in 1725-1727, Armenians who came from Iran built the church of St. Stephen.
100 years later, in 1868, a new domed temple was built on the site of this temple. Time did not pass him by and in 1910 the church had to be reconstructed. After that, since 1988, the church has been subordinated to the Georgian Orthodox Church.
The architecture of the Church of the Nativity of the Savior in Kvemo Betlemi is quite simple. The temple was built in the form of a cross. The main material used in construction is brick. To give the church volume and height, it was built on an artificial hill made of brick.
The dome, like most Georgian churches, is mounted on 4 free-standing pillars. The apse (a projection of any shape connected to the main part of the building by a semi-dome) is semi-circular in shape.
Decorative arches and elongated rectangular recesses were used as facade decoration. Windows are harmoniously built in the arches. To frame the dome, the architects resorted to brick circles, which, like a belt, outline the base of the dome.
The church traditionally has 2 entrances from different sides: north and west. Judging by the presence of a wide staircase, the north door is the central one. Above, above the iron door, in a brick frame in the form of an arch, the icon of the Rescuer is depicted.
The interior would have been painted already in 1991-1997 by the painters D. Khidasheli and M. Chakvetadze.
An interesting point is that an ordinary apartment building is adjacent to the temple from the west side. But it has one feature – its base rests on huge columns.
The sights of Georgia can surprise not only by themselves, but also sometimes by their location or even by their neighborhood. This is what happened in the case of the Church of the Nativity of Christ the Savior.
