All about holidays in the village of Ureki⬇️
The Black Sea coast is famous for its resort towns and villages. One of these resorts will be discussed in this article.
The resort of Ureki is famous in Georgia and around the world for its extraordinary beach, the coastline of which is strewn with magnetic sand. The resort has earned fame not only due to the unusual black and gray color of the sand, but also its medicinal properties.
History of Ureki
The urban-type settlement of Ureki is not rich in its history. It originated in Soviet times, thanks to its healing sands. In the middle of the twentieth century, a railway was laid through Ureki, and it was at this time that people learned that beach sand has medicinal properties. During the construction of the road, the prisoners who were directly involved in this began to get rid of their illnesses.
The phenomenon was of a massive nature, in connection with which a study was conducted. It showed that the sands here are magnetic and therapeutic. In the 70s, two sanatoriums were built in the village, which today are the only local attractions. The sanatorium “Colchis" is still functioning today. After the collapse of the USSR, the sanatorium resort “Gorny Crystal” fell into decline, and the tourist influx decreased significantly. The abandoned sanatorium still frighteningly towers over Ureki.
In the early 2000s, the village of Ureki came to life again and began to develop as a tourist area. Hotels, cafes, parks have appeared here and a beach area has been established. Later, studies of the magnetic anomaly of the sand were conducted again, which showed that the sands are really therapeutic and even a list of indications for treatment with these healing sands was compiled. The influx of tourists has increased significantly. By the way, there are contraindications to magnetotherapy. Those who have cancer and blood diseases, as well as tuberculosis and asthma of varying severity cannot be treated here.
Magnetiti Beach
Calm and free from the hustle and bustle of the city, the beach attracts tourists. But along with the advantages, the beach in Ureki has its disadvantages. For example, a coniferous forest grows along the coastline, which is why a lot of natural garbage is formed. This very unpleasant phenomenon creates a kind of clutteriness of the beach. Plus, the village stands on a place that was once swampy. Now there are swamps only in the village district, but in the summer during the beach season there are a lot of mosquitoes at the resort. Also, in addition to the healing properties of magnetic sand, it also has contraindications for people with certain diseases, as mentioned above. In addition to everything else, the magnetic field of sand disables small machinery. For the same reason, there is no wildlife in the sea water near the beach.
It is worth noting that in Georgia, as in other countries, this beach with magnetic sand and its healing properties is not the only one. Treatment with such sands is referred to as magnetotherapy.
Indications for magnetic therapy:
- Cardiovascular diseases, ischemia, hypertension;
- Nervous diseases in the form of depression, neuroses and neuralgia;
- Diseases of the bone system in the form of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatism and polyarthritis in chronic form;
- diseases of the urinary system;
- congenital or acquired childhood diseases: cerebral palsy, injuries received during childbirth, rickets, polio.
For people with tuberculosis, asthma and oncology, visiting Magnetiti Beach is allowed only after consulting with a doctor. The magnetic properties of sand adversely affect these diseases.
A five-kilometer magnetic sandy zone was formed by several rivers. Small black fractions with a weak magnetic field were brought from the nearest mountains by water from two rivers. Sand has been collected on this Black Sea coast for hundreds of years and has been protected from erosion by river waters. Thus, a magnetite beach was formed, which is referred to as Magnetiti.
It is worth noting that Ureki is also famous for its clean and healing air. Along the Black Sea coast in the village of Ureki there are eucalyptus and pine groves. Ionized and saturated air creates natural aromatherapy. For the human respiratory tract, this phenomenon has a very beneficial effect. If you add therapeutic magnetic sand and clean sea water here, then you can improve your health as much as possible. That is why tourists often choose Ureki for recreation and treatment.
The resort of Ureki is considered inexpensive and has recently been gaining its tourist momentum. If earlier it was quiet and calm, now, at the height of the season, a lot of tourists gather on the beach. This is due to the development of tourist infrastructure. But for lovers of solitude, there is the quietest place near Ureki — Kobuleti beach.
Attractions
The village of Ureki itself is famous only for its magnetic sands and no more. After the beach season ends, there is nothing to do here. An ordinary Georgian village with bad roads and cows walking through the streets.

Kobuleti is located a little further from Ureki than Poti. There is also a beach with large white pebbles and a nature reserve of the same name. In addition, you can visit the Tsitsinatel amusement Park.

Accommodation in Ureki
Since the beginning of 2000, Ureki has been intensively developing as a tourist destination. To date, there are a sufficient number of hotels, inns and boarding houses in the coastal zone, as well as housing can be found in the private sector. Prices for accommodation here are very low compared to prices in Batumi.
Ureki is good because due to its small area, many hotels are located near the shore. Every tourist dreams of waking up in the morning and seeing the sea through the window of his room.
Ureki provides such an opportunity to almost every tourist. Although in other resort towns such rooms have a high cost and are very different in price from hotels more remote from the beach. Right there, housing, regardless of the view from the window, is very cheap.
The most recommended and popular hotels and guest houses:
Albatross Hotel
This cozy hotel is located thirty meters from the beach.
It is very convenient to relax with children here, as there are swimming pools and playgrounds.
Another plus is that meals are included in the price, so you don't have to look for cafes and restaurants.
Sanatorium Colchis
Once upon a time, namely in Soviet times, it was a sanatorium.
Today it is a comfortable, modern and cozy hotel.
Meals are included in the price, and there is also a private beach, which is very convenient, since now the beach of Ureki is popular and crowded, and here you can enjoy privacy and peace.
Private sector
There are 1,500 people living in Ureki. Most of them work in the tourism business. There are many times more guest houses here than hotels. In any case, it is better to book rooms in advance. At the height of the season, you can stay without a bed for the night or even run into scammers who happen to be here. By the way, you can bargain with the owners for a room in such a guest house.
The Georgian people are mostly respectable and hospitable. But you still need to be careful, and if something confuses you in a conversation with the owner or you see some kind of trick, it's better to be safe and look for another place to live. It often happens that the cheapness lies in the fact that bed linen is not included in the price. Similar and other nuances can create unpleasant impressions from the rest, so approach the choice of housing responsibly.

Impressions of vacationers in Ureki
Recall that the main purpose of tourists' arrival in Ureki is a magnetic sandy beach. The opinion of travelers about this place was divided into two equal halves. The first considers the resort to be a very remarkable and significantly cheap tourist destination. Plus, the healing properties of the magnetic beach play a role in the reviews. Many people come here to be treated.
Magnetic sand has cured many diseases in the elderly and in children. By the way, the main contingent of tourists here consists of elderly people and couples with children. The advantage of relaxing with children is also a gentle descent into the water. The remaining half of the tourists who visited here are dissatisfied with the infrastructure of the village as a whole. This is a small number of boutiques and shops.
In the off-season, they are generally closed, which is really a big minus. And in fact, there is nothing else to look at here, except for the beach. Also, many tourists, tempted by beach holidays, do not like the natural garbage that accumulates on the shore. And due to the dark color of the sand, the garbage here is very striking.
In general, Ureki is a very good resort village. It continues to grow and develop as a tourist area. Therefore, when planning a vacation in Georgia, visit this place. Magnetite, with its healing properties, will not leave you indifferent. It has its own provincial and calm atmosphere. You will not find here the hustle and bustle of the city and the endless traffic flow.
Ureki is designed for tourists of any class. Even the most pampered travelers will find comfortable and luxurious conditions for recreation here. Like any place in Georgia, Ureki and its surroundings have beautiful landscapes and attract with their natural beauties.
