The Church of the Savior Khalde is located in northwestern Georgia, in Svaneti, in the village of Khaldi, which is inhabited by the Kali community. The church hall building was erected in the 19th century from flint slate, a local rock. It was painted by Dmitri Bakradze. The sights of Georgia are famous for their rich history, but not everything has reached us in its original form. There used to be a medieval church on the site of the cathedral, which was richly decorated with paintings. The cathedral was destroyed by Russian troops during the uprising of the Khaldi community. Only decorative cornice elements, which were used to decorate the modern church, remained from it.
The church walls are plastered inside and outside, the entrance is in the form of an arch and is located on the west side. The door is made of wood and is decorated with carved ornaments. Inside the temple is an iconostasis, some icons were donated by concerned believers. An interesting piece of iconography is an icon of St. George of the X century.
Eastern, or as it is called, the Free Slavonia, has reached the present day, preserving most of the monuments of antiquity, the traditional way of life. Its richness in archaic architectural structures amazes tourists, and places it among the most beautiful places in Georgia.
