The building dates from the IX-X centuries and is a hall church of rectangular shape. The sights of Georgia were mostly built from materials from the surrounding area. The Church of Zemo was no exception, it was built of rock stones and cobblestones, which add to its image of grandeur.

The semi-cylindrical vault of the building rests on a triumphal arch decorated with a carved capitol, the structure is supported by corbels of tuff. To get inside it is possible through a rectangular entrance with a wooden door.

The church is completed with an appendage - a semicircular apse on the east side, which is slightly elevated, thanks to the stone steps. There are niches on the sides of the apse. Light enters the church through several carved windows: one in the apse and one in the center of the west wall.
