In Georgia's Guria, there is a unique resort called Bakhmaro. It is located at an altitude of about 2000 m above sea level in Chokhataura municipality, in a peculiar basin. It is surrounded by mountains and coniferous forests, a lot of sun, weak sea winds, moist air (up to 73%), which is very good for lung diseases.
In the old days, shepherds who drove herds to the local pastures, noted that they began to feel much better. They began to bring their relatives here. The benefits of the surrounding microclimate were finally confirmed when one of the patients with tuberculosis was cured.
Bakhmaro can hardly be called a village, they do not live here during winter. The season at the resort lasts from late June to early September. But usually the end of the season is marked on August 19 - the day of the Transfiguration. On this day there are horse races and other festive events.
Lodging for vacationers are wooden cottages on supports, most often without amenities. Such cottages are usually rented for a long period, up to a month. More comfortable accommodation can be found in small hotels, but they are few and the cost is quite high. Despite such difficult living conditions the resort is popular in Georgia and there are no vacant cottages during the season.
