Excellent preservation of the monument of architecture of the 9th century - the Nedzvi monastery. Historical landmark of Georgia.
There are many monasteries of the early Middle Ages in Georgia. They are often poorly preserved, but are still of great interest to tourists. Another attraction of Georgia, an architectural monument of the 9th century, is the Nedzvi Monastery. It is located in Borjomi municipality, 10-12 kilometers from the village of Akhaldaba. These places are known for a large number of thermal springs and balneological resorts.
The village is no less interesting for those who love historical places. Some sources say that already in the second half of the 8th century Akhaldaba was a small town. The Battle of Kvishkhet between Georgian and Mongol troops took place near it in the 13th century. Only the ruins of the medieval Akhaldab fortress (10th century) have survived to this day.

Temples of the early Middle Ages
Very few temples of this era have survived. They were built in hard-to-reach places. But even such an arrangement did not save them from raids and destruction.
Presumably, in the 9th century there was a monastery complex in these places: the Green Monastery, Likani and Nedzvi. They were built by the students of Grigory Khandztiysky in a single architectural style, without unnecessary decorations. Rough-hewn stone was used for the construction of the walls.
Nedzvi
The monastery was built in the gorge of the Mtkvari (Kura) River and its tributary Nedzviskhevi in the 50s of the 9th century by St. Theodore Nedzveli, a disciple of St. Gregory Khandzteli.
Nedzvi today is the ruins of the largest three—church basilica known in Georgia. This type of basilica was common in the Georgian church architecture of the early Middle Ages. In such a basilica, the central nave was separated from the aisles by walls. It turned out like three churches.
After the restoration of 1948 and 1962, the plan of the church was established. The longitudinal walls of the altar ledge — the apse — are divided by arches and columns. On the eastern side, a rectangular niche adjoins the apse, and on the west — a semicircular exedra.
All three rooms, churches, were fenced on three sides. They were connected to each other by passages in the western part of the basilica. The sights of the Borjomi Gorge are not only ancient monasteries and temples, thermal springs and resorts. Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park with preserved corners of pristine nature is also located here. These are the most beautiful places in Georgia, their visit will be remembered forever.
