Mythological character
According to ancient Greek myth, Medea was the daughter of Aeetes, king of Colchis. She fell in love with Argonaut Jason. She helped him steal the Golden Fleece and escaped with the Argonauts to Greece.
When the beloved wished to marry another, Medea killed her sons born of Jason, destroyed her rival and sped away on a winged chariot.
Medea is also considered to be the founder of medicine.

Statue of Medea
A 40-meter bronze figure of Medea stands on Europe Square. In her hands she holds a golden fleece. In support of the name, the fleece is gilded.
