Visit Mtirala National Park⬇️
There is a wonderful wildlife corner in the Adjara region of Georgia – Mtirala National Park. It is located around Mount Mtirala (1761 m), between the rivers Koragistskali and Chakvistskali. The climate is humid here, there is a lot of rain. Mtirala means "crying" in Georgian.
This is a zone of subtropical, Colchian forests, which are distinguished by a variety of vegetation and wildlife. There are rare, red-book plants and animals: beech, chestnuts, primrose, roe deer, dwarf eagle, Caucasian salamander and many others. Because of the high humidity, moss grows everywhere.
Tourist routes
As a tourist area, this territory began to develop only in 2006. There are 2 hiking trails with a length of 6 and 16 km. In the information center, tourists are given a map, and you can also rent the necessary equipment there.
Both routes start in the village of Chakvistavi and go along the river of the same name. An unusual rope crossing has been thrown over it. This is a wooden cabin with a steering wheel: the wheel needs to be turned so that the cabin moves along the cables. A trail through the relic forest will lead to a fork. If you climb a little higher, you will come to the Tsabilnari waterfall, near which there is a picnic area. The lower path leads to a beautiful mountain lake.
Near the fork there is another attraction – a zipline at a height of 10 m above the river and rocks. For those who go further, a tourist shelter is equipped on the 9th kilometer of the trail. There are places where you can set up a tent for the night and make a fire. Horse riding is also organized in the park, ecotours.
How to get
It is 25 km from Batumi to the National Park, but there is no direct connection. You need to take a minibus to the village of Chakvi, and then – by taxi. You can order a transfer from Batumi or Kutaisi directly to Mtirala Park ($29-66). It is most convenient to take an excursion tour from Batumi, their cost is from 50 lari per person (≈ 14 $).
