Part of the history of Georgia. A city with centuries of history and its main attraction - the Lion's Fortress of Akhaltsikhe - Rabat.
The "lion" fortress of Akhaltsikhe - Rabat, as one of the most beautiful in Georgia. It fascinates with its beauty and history. The blog "MadLoba" has beautiful photos, the history and architecture of this place, as well as useful information for tourists on how to get to the fortress and how it works
A city with a centuries-old history, in which there are many bloody wars, Akhaptsikhe is located in the southern part of Georgia. The main, central attraction of Akhaptsikhe is the ancient fortress of Rabat. In importance, it is often compared with the cave monastery complex of Vardzia.
Even now, when looking at it, the feeling of reliability and monumentality does not leave. Initially, the fortress was called "Lomisa", which means "lion's" in Georgian. In 2011-2012, the fortress was restored. At this time, it is divided into two parts - upper and lower, guided tours are conducted.
In the fortress itself, you can find the hotel and restaurant of the same name, souvenir and wine shops, cafes - all these establishments are located in the lower part. In the upper part there is a Christian temple and a Muslim mosque, a museum and a gallery.
Other attractions include the Church of St. Marina, built in the 19th century. Visiting the temple is free. But judging by the reviews, it is not always possible to get into it. The relics of Saint Marina (Marina) are kept in the walls of the temple.
In the old part of the city, behind the Eastern ravine, there is a former Jewish quarter. "Former", for the reason that the Jews who lived here left the city. After some time, the quarter became Armenian. Two synagogues have been preserved on the territory of the quarter, one of which was built in the middle of the 18th century. Despite the fact that the synagogue is not functioning, you can inspect it. The city authorities plan to open a museum in it.
There is a Jewish cemetery on the north side of the synagogue, behind the Armenian cemetery. If you believe those who managed to visit there and "look around", there are quite interesting and beautiful monuments, various sarcophagi in the Jewish cemetery. However, those who have a desire to look at them will have to climb over a high fence. The gates of the Jewish cemetery are almost always closed.

Я бы хотела посмотреть на старинное еврейское кладбище, так как у каждого народа свои обычаи и традиции захоронения.
