The inhabitants of the monastery, finding themselves under siege, used an unusual method of defense - with the help of pigs. The Tatars, hating these animals, left the area when they saw Georgian pigs attacking them. This custom of sacrificing pigs continues here to this day, recalling the courage and ingenuity of the ancient defenders.
